30 | 4 Phone Boundary Tips for Personal Business Owners

3-Day Mastermind: Grow Your Business While Only Spending 30 Minutes per Day on Instagra

Let's be honest, using social media as the main marketing tool for your business can be HARD. You want to spend less time on social media but you fear missing out on opportunities. Your time on social media helps you connect with others and grow your business. But you spend more time than necessary mindlessly scrolling or checking how many views your last reel has. You set up boundaries with your social media, but end up mindlessly scrolling anyways. It would be so much easier to just completely avoid social media, but it is such a powerful way to grow your business that you can't completely give it up. I have spending an average of 34 minutes per day on Instagram for the last 3 months and my followers, reach, and sales have increased more than in the last 2 years. In today's episode I'll be sharing 4 things you can do to keep your social media use under control when you use it to market your own business.

Speaker:

Do you ever find yourself turning to your

phone without even thinking about it?

2

:

Or do you get sucked into

scrolling and regret not using

3

:

that time for something else?

4

:

You are not alone.

5

:

I'm Alex, a Screen Time Mentor for

Young Moms, and I'm here to help you

6

:

get a grip on your own screen time

so you can be present, intentional,

7

:

and live a more fulfilling life.

8

:

Welcome to the Mindful With Media Podcast.

9

:

Well, I mostly speak to young moms

and helping you as a young mom,

10

:

keep your own screen time and check.

11

:

I've found that a lot of you have

your own business and you use

12

:

Instagram to market your own business.

13

:

So today I'm going to be sharing

four things that you can do to keep

14

:

your social media use under control

when you need it for your business.

15

:

The very first step is to

get clear on what you value.

16

:

Think about what really matters to you.

17

:

Is it your relationship with your kids

or your relationship with your spouse?

18

:

Maybe your mental health.

19

:

Maybe your spirituality.

20

:

This could be anything.

21

:

And one way to really figure out what

is most important to you is to set a

22

:

timer for three minutes and then just

write down everything that comes to mind.

23

:

That's important to you.

24

:

And then you can go back through

and identify the top five things

25

:

that matter most to you right now.

26

:

And what matters most to you

will probably change over time.

27

:

But just really take a step back

and remember what you care about.

28

:

It's so easy to get caught up in the nitty

gritty of running your business, that

29

:

you forget why you're doing what you do.

30

:

It's easy to forget.

31

:

The reason that you started your

own business in the first place.

32

:

So take a step back and get clear

on what matters to you as a person.

33

:

And kind of within this first step

of getting clear on what you value.

34

:

I also take some time to.

35

:

Note.

36

:

W why you have your business?

37

:

What's the purpose of your business?

38

:

Is it to make you a

certain amount of money?

39

:

And if so, why do you

want to make that money?

40

:

Is it to.

41

:

Be able to go on vacations with your kids.

42

:

Or maybe the purpose of your business

is so that you can have an outlet.

43

:

That's a fun creative outlet for you

so that you can be there for your kids.

44

:

But just take a step back and remember

what the purpose of your business

45

:

is, and that will help you to be more

intentional with how you use social media.

46

:

The second step that can really help

you to keep your social media use under

47

:

control when you use it for your business.

48

:

Is to identify which tasks

are actually necessary.

49

:

And.

50

:

I will be teaching a mastermind.

51

:

Next week, all about this,

and we'll do some more things

52

:

that will really help you to.

53

:

Identify the things that are

actually helping your business grow.

54

:

But one thing that you can do right

now is to write down all of the things

55

:

you do when you're on social media.

56

:

So.

57

:

Do you watch stories?

58

:

Do you respond to DMS?

59

:

Do you post, do you comment

on other people's posts?

60

:

Do.

61

:

You respond to comments on your own posts.

62

:

Do you save trending audio?

63

:

Do you scroll to get ideas for posts

you could do or for marketing strategy?

64

:

Do you scroll and like pictures

from people that you know and love.

65

:

I just make a, a huge list of all

of the things that you are actually

66

:

doing when you're on social media.

67

:

And then after you have this list and

you can limit yourself, like set a

68

:

timer and only give yourself 90 seconds

or something to write everything down.

69

:

So then after you have your

list of everything you do.

70

:

Keeping your values in

mind from step number one.

71

:

On a scale of one to five, identify

how necessary each of these tasks are.

72

:

So uh, one would mean

it just wastes your time.

73

:

And a five would mean

that this is crucial.

74

:

Whether for you or for your business.

75

:

And.

76

:

You get to decide what is necessary.

77

:

And this can just help you kind of

see which tasks are most important

78

:

and which tasks are least important.

79

:

And then you can decide.

80

:

What things you want to let go of

that might not be actually moving

81

:

the needle in your business.

82

:

I recently went to a training.

83

:

I serve in my church.

84

:

And one of the things that we

talked about in the training.

85

:

Was that.

86

:

You will get to a point in life when

there's more to do than you have time for.

87

:

And.

88

:

That can be hard to accept, right?

89

:

That's not always the most

comfortable thing to realize.

90

:

You've probably felt this in your

business where you have so many

91

:

ideas or you have so many things that

you feel like you should be doing

92

:

.

To show up on social media or to grow your business in certain ways.

93

:

And.

94

:

The thing is.

95

:

You can't and don't have

time to do everything.

96

:

And so you have to choose.

97

:

Those things that are actually.

98

:

growing your business and the

ways that matter most to you.

99

:

And like I said, I'll be teaching

a mastermind next week where

100

:

we'll do some more things that

will really help you to identify.

101

:

How to spend your time in ways

that will actually help you.

102

:

Do whatever you want to do in your

business, whether that's make money

103

:

or whether that's really help people

in a certain way, or whether that's

104

:

grow your following, whatever it is.

105

:

I'll help, you know what the

needle movers are in your business.

106

:

The third step that can help you keep

your social media use under control.

107

:

When you use it to market,

your own business is to treat

108

:

social media like a classroom.

109

:

So I think of it this way.

110

:

I think about having two

roles when I'm on Instagram.

111

:

The first role that I have whenever

I open the Instagram app is I

112

:

think of myself as a teacher.

113

:

So that would be doing things like posting

ideas that I have or commenting and.

114

:

Sharing things or.

115

:

Responding to DMS.

116

:

And then the other role that

I think of myself as having,

117

:

When I get on Instagram is.

118

:

The student.

119

:

So, this is where I learned

things, whether that's about.

120

:

Business and marketing, or also just

learning things about parenting or running

121

:

or other things that I'm interested in.

122

:

So that's when I do things

like I'm scrolling and I'm.

123

:

Looking at posts or watching reels.

124

:

Or saving, trending audios or.

125

:

Getting ideas.

126

:

And this concept of thinking of

myself, either as a teacher or as a

127

:

student, when I'm on the Instagram app.

128

:

Has really helped me too.

129

:

Change my view of social media as

a place, I view it as a classroom.

130

:

And.

131

:

I'm more likely to treat it that way.

132

:

And not just get on whatever.

133

:

When I think about myself as

going to work like as a teacher

134

:

or going to school as a student.

135

:

So it's really helped me to schedule

certain times to get on social media.

136

:

As a teacher and that's when I go on to

post or to respond to DMS or comments

137

:

or to share things on my stories.

138

:

And then I also schedule other

times to go on as the student.

139

:

And this is when I do things

like intentional scrolling.

140

:

And that's actually step number

four is to schedule times in your

141

:

calendar to intentionally scroll.

142

:

And this is when you scroll with

the intention of doing research

143

:

to get ideas for your business

or for your marketing strategy.

144

:

So how can you be

intentional while scrolling?

145

:

You can get out your laptop

and open a document so that

146

:

you're ready to take notes.

147

:

And then your whole purpose.

148

:

While you're scrolling is to.

149

:

Learn things that can help you in your

business so you can save trending adios.

150

:

You can.

151

:

Brainstorm content ideas.

152

:

Just have your mind open and ready

to just write down any ideas that

153

:

come to you as you're scrolling.

154

:

And.

155

:

You can keep your content

pillars in mind as you scroll so

156

:

that you have a jumping point.

157

:

For content creation, inspiration.

158

:

And within this idea of intentionally

scrolling, I like to have.

159

:

Specific categories for

when I'm saving posts.

160

:

So I have one that's just for general

business ideas or other, and then I have

161

:

another folder when I save posts that

I can save it to content inspiration.

162

:

So if I see a post about good

hook ideas or a certain idea

163

:

that I'd like to copy and.

164

:

Applied to my own niche.

165

:

Another folder that I have

within my saved posts is trending

166

:

audio that I want to use.

167

:

And this just makes it so that when I'm.

168

:

Working in my business.

169

:

It's already all categorized

for me right there.

170

:

, so that I can.

171

:

Have ideas to use.

172

:

At other.

173

:

Folder that I like to use for

my saved posts are niche ideas.

174

:

. So these are posts from people who

are either in a similar niche to me.

175

:

Or they post something about my

niche and I love saving these posts

176

:

so I can look at the comments and

see what kinds of things people are

177

:

saying or asking about the topic.

178

:

And this helps me know what

topics to focus on in the future.

179

:

Some other.

180

:

Folders that you could create too.

181

:

Categorize your saved posts would

be email marketing or legal things

182

:

or stories or podcast or YouTube,

or maybe you're creating a course.

183

:

And.

184

:

Core stuff just.

185

:

Whatever works for you and your business.

186

:

It's really helpful to have.

187

:

Certain folders that you can save post to.

188

:

And this will really help.

189

:

Your time on social media to be

intentional and more than anything.

190

:

When you're actually creating content or

you're actually wanting to use the things

191

:

that you've learned on social media.

192

:

You have your notes right there, that

you've already written the things

193

:

down and you've brainstorm ideas.

194

:

And then you have these categories

of, posts that you can return to

195

:

when you are ready to do whatever

it is that you're working on.

196

:

So ours is a review of

what we talked about today.

197

:

For things that you can do to keep your

social media use under control when

198

:

you use it to market your own business,

first, get clear on what you value.

199

:

Remember why you even started

your business in the first place?

200

:

And the second step is to identify

which tasks are actually necessary

201

:

and which ones you can let go of.

202

:

And then the third step was to

treat social media, like a place

203

:

that you're going like a classroom.

204

:

So think of yourself as either

the teacher, when you get on or

205

:

think of yourself as the student.

206

:

And then the fourth and final step was to

schedule times to intentionally scroll.

207

:

So you can get ideas for your business

and your marketing strategy and all

208

:

have that in a place where you can

access the information later i will

209

:

be holding a three-day mastermind

Where i will teach you how to grow

210

:

your business by only spending 30

minutes a day on instagram and i'll

211

:

teach you exactly what i do to do this

212

:

On the first day, I'll teach you

how to set up work-life boundaries.

213

:

This can be especially hard when your life

is unpredictable and somewhat flexible.

214

:

And your available times to work.

215

:

You don't always know when that

will be, but I will teach you how

216

:

to set up work-life boundaries.

217

:

When that's your situation.

218

:

On the second day this will be more

of marketing strategy and getting

219

:

clear on how to use Instagram in a

way that actually grows your business

220

:

and letting go of any of those.

221

:

Unnecessary things.

222

:

So help you create a content

plan that actually works for you.

223

:

And then on the third day, I'll

teach you how to actually stick to

224

:

the phone boundaries that you set.

225

:

And this is the hardest

part for most people.
