Speaker:

I've coached nearly 100 women about their

screen time, and here's what I've learned.

2

:

Women actually don't care about their

screen time, they care about those things

3

:

that are impacted by their screen time.

4

:

Their ability to be patient with their

kids, the growth of their business,

5

:

having time to pursue their creative

dreams, their relationship with their

6

:

husband, the inner peace that they feel,

their confidence in themselves, their

7

:

Connection with God, their friendships

not missing out on their kids' childhoods.

8

:

I'm Alex and I'm here to

help you find inner peace.

9

:

Enjoy true fulfillment

and be fully present.

10

:

Welcome to the Mindful with Media Podcast.

11

:

Alex: I am so excited to have

Megan Pinkney here today, and

12

:

so will you go ahead and introduce

yourself a little bit, both like

13

:

personally and also your business?

14

:

Sure.

15

:

Meagan: Yes, totally.

16

:

I'm excited to be here too.

17

:

So my name is Megan, like you said

and I run the Goalgetter Girls.

18

:

So my handle is Goalgetter Girls,

but I'm the Goalgetter Girls for

19

:

all girls and women specifically

in reaching their personal goals.

20

:

So I'm a goals coach, is what I do

specifically with Christian women.

21

:

I'm a Latter day Saint.

22

:

And so I do include that a lot in

the things that I share in the things

23

:

that I teach because I just think

it's all so included and so connected.

24

:

And so that's something I talk

about a lot in reaching our personal

25

:

goals and becoming our best selves.

26

:

I'm a mom, so I have a almost

two and a half year olds and then

27

:

I'm due in July with my second.

28

:

So I like to stay busy in motherhood.

29

:

But I'm so lucky I get to be a stay

at home mom right now, which I love.

30

:

So, when I'm not pregnant and feeling a

little better, I love running and hiking,

31

:

adventuring just all the fun things.

32

:

Right now, I can't do a lot of those

things, but I enjoy baking, cooking.

33

:

We also love camping and outdoors

as a family, all sorts of things.

34

:

Alex: So fun.

35

:

So we want to, yeah, specifically talk

about like goals for business owners.

36

:

And I actually think this will be a

really helpful conversation for me because

37

:

truthfully I grew up like very, , into

goals and into like, I don't know.

38

:

I just thought it was fun setting goals.

39

:

But then I would say in the last,

like, I don't know, several years,

40

:

I've been almost like anti goals,

I think because probably of the way

41

:

that I was using them was not correct.

42

:

So I'm actually really excited for this

conversation today to, I don't know,

43

:

help me get in a better place about

goals, both for myself, but also to

44

:

help my audience just with, yeah, goals.

45

:

Goals around business.

46

:

First I want to start off with

talking or just asking a question.

47

:

Like why is it important

for business owners to spend

48

:

time working on themselves?

49

:

Meagan: I love this question because I

think a lot of times anyone that really,

50

:

really anyone in any role will make an

excuse to not work on themselves in a

51

:

way that they feel like it's selfless.

52

:

Like there'll be like, well, I'm just

dedicating this time to my business.

53

:

I'm dedicating this time.

54

:

To my family, I'm dedicating this time.

55

:

I take care of my mom or whatever it is.

56

:

So I can't take care of myself

or I don't have the time.

57

:

I don't have the energy, the resources

because I'm spending them other places.

58

:

But really it's the opposite because

when we're willing to work on

59

:

ourselves and sometimes it's not even

time, it's more just intention with.

60

:

The things that we're already doing.

61

:

But when we're willing to put that

work into ourselves, we're going to

62

:

show up better as business owners, as

mothers, as members of our community,

63

:

as whatever roles you're in, when you're

able to show up as the best version of

64

:

yourself, you're going to be, you're

going to be able to give so much more.

65

:

You're going to be so much more present,

so much more passionate, energized.

66

:

Your cup is going to be full.

67

:

Like you're going to have so much more.

68

:

so much more to offer in your

current roles, and you'll probably

69

:

even be able to take on more

roles as you work on yourself.

70

:

So really like working on yourself in

this way, not like self care spa night

71

:

every night, but like really doing

things that fill your cup and help

72

:

you to be the best version of you.

73

:

Like that is the most selfless thing

that you can do in any of those

74

:

roles as a mother, a business owner,

whatever it is, because you'll have

75

:

more of you to give to other people.

76

:

Alex: I cannot agree more.

77

:

And I think I've, I've worked through

that a lot for myself, like, especially

78

:

in my role as a mom and a caregiver.

79

:

And so when my son was, he was

like, my kids are 18 months apart.

80

:

So it was when he was like, I don't

know, one and a half and a few months.

81

:

And my daughter was like

two or three months old.

82

:

We hired a regular babysitter.

83

:

And , I had to work through

so much to be okay with that.

84

:

And it was, it's exactly

what you're talking about.

85

:

Where like, I finally got to a point

where I was like, I am not showing

86

:

up as the mom that I want to be.

87

:

And so I really need to have some

dedicated time for myself so that

88

:

I can actually be a better mom.

89

:

But it felt like initially,

like I'm neglecting my kids.

90

:

I'm like, you know, Having somebody

else taking care of them, but I

91

:

totally felt like it's, it really

has helped me when I'm with them.

92

:

Like I can be totally with them

and actually like, I don't know.

93

:

Yeah.

94

:

But I think I'm working through

that with my business because my

95

:

business is so fulfilling for me.

96

:

And I think most.

97

:

Moms who have their own business.

98

:

It's that way because it's usually

like you're choosing to do it.

99

:

You know, it's like a fun thing, but I

think it's easy to have like all of my

100

:

spare time go to my business and like,

you know, just kind of like always

101

:

chasing that next thing in your business.

102

:

And I don't know, always

working on things.

103

:

So I feel like this is a good

reminder for me to be like, okay.

104

:

And I feel like I've been working on

this, but still like just dedicating

105

:

times to not work on my business.

106

:

And I do feel like when I have more

space and time instead of always just

107

:

like kids business, kids business, then

I have more ideas and it actually like

108

:

serves my business in the long run.

109

:

Totally agree.

110

:

Okay.

111

:

I would love for you to talk about how.

112

:

Can you find your personal

vision and why it matters?

113

:

Meagan: Okay.

114

:

I love this is one of my favorite

things to do in one on one coaching

115

:

is like really get clear on like

someone's personal vision, because

116

:

it can be so different depending

on who you are and what you want.

117

:

And sometimes we feel like our

vision should be a certain thing.

118

:

Like we all should.

119

:

Drink eight glasses of water a day and

we all should Eat, you know eat the

120

:

same healthy foods and sleep for eight

hours and like we're all like This is

121

:

the vision of who we all should be But

like really like digging into like who

122

:

you are and what you need and what you

want and what you prioritize Like finding

123

:

that vision is so key before you've

even set any goals because you might be

124

:

setting goals to reach some vision of

someone else without even realizing it.

125

:

If you haven't really taken the

time to find your own vision.

126

:

And one of the ways that I love

to like walk people through that.

127

:

Is walking them through a day in

the ideal version of themselves.

128

:

Like from the moment that they

wake up, like what time is the

129

:

best version of you waking up?

130

:

And is that person like

waking up to an alarm?

131

:

Are they waking up to their kid crying?

132

:

Like there's no right or wrong answer.

133

:

Like, When does the best

version of you wake up?

134

:

And then just going through

every step of the day.

135

:

Like what is the best version of you eat?

136

:

What's the best version of you wear?

137

:

You know, like just those little things.

138

:

What does the best

version of you prioritize?

139

:

And then once you can see that vision

of the best version of you, not on

140

:

your ideal day, maybe there's some

things that go wrong in your day.

141

:

It's the ideal version

of you in any given day.

142

:

Act then finding that vision first before

you set goals that helps you to really

143

:

find like your why behind your goals

and set more meaningful and productive

144

:

measurable goals towards that vision.

145

:

Not something that you like saw on social

media that you feel like you want to try.

146

:

Because those things can be great too.

147

:

But like the real meaningful, like deep

personal goals will be reaching that

148

:

version of you, which I believe is who

you were designed to be, who you were

149

:

always meant to be, who you really are

without all the fluff and stress and

150

:

overwhelm that sometimes comes is like

this version of you that you already are,

151

:

like, you know, who she is when you think

about it, when you think about, you know,

152

:

what the best version of you Eats for

breakfast like you already know like it

153

:

that usually something pops mind of like

oh this like this Makes me feel good.

154

:

It makes me happy It makes me feel

productive and then focusing your

155

:

goals around that and anytime you

set a new goal Refer back to your

156

:

vision and be like is this getting me?

157

:

To this version of me this version that

just feels good and has good days even

158

:

in hard times Like finding that vision

can really shift your perspective of

159

:

goals And help you stay motivated when

you're like, why am I doing this again?

160

:

Oh, yeah, because I want to

achieve this version of myself

161

:

like the best version I can be

162

:

Alex: Interesting.

163

:

Interesting.

164

:

I actually really liked that

because I was thinking like

165

:

before, before this interview,

like, I literally did a training.

166

:

I think it was at the beginning

of the year when like, there was

167

:

all the things around goal setting

about like why I don't set goals.

168

:

And when I called it, I think I

called it like how to make radical

169

:

changes without setting goals.

170

:

And that's kind of what,

Oh, sorry, backtrack.

171

:

I was thinking about like why I Yeah,

like why I didn't like setting goals.

172

:

And I think it's because in my experience,

sometimes I get so focused on the goal

173

:

in itself, that it's like, it becomes the

end instead of like the means to an end.

174

:

So I love that, that, like,

Starting with your personal vision

175

:

of like, what do you even want?

176

:

Like, what is, yeah, what,

why are you doing this?

177

:

Like, why are you drinking

eight glasses of water a day?

178

:

Or why are you eating whatever breakfast?

179

:

Like, just remember, yeah, I love that.

180

:

Like, keeping the end in mind

instead of being so caught up

181

:

with, like, the thing itself.

182

:

Like, whether or not you're doing it.

183

:

Totally.

184

:

I love that.

185

:

Okay.

186

:

So with that vision in mind, with your

personal vision, what do you recommend

187

:

on how to set measurable goals?

188

:

Meagan: Totally.

189

:

So I use a method where I set

goals in four different categories.

190

:

And it's actually something

that I developed over years.

191

:

And then the church actually came

out with something really similar.

192

:

The Church of Jesus Christ of But they

did add a category that I didn't have.

193

:

So initially I had physical,

spiritual and emotional were my

194

:

three categories that I landed on.

195

:

And then the church came out with

social as well and emotional.

196

:

They changed to intellectual.

197

:

And I know you actually

phrase it as mental.

198

:

So there's been a few tweaks there,

but the four I created, physical,

199

:

spiritual, mental, and social.

200

:

And I think one of the reasons I didn't

have social is because I am totally game

201

:

to like work on myself and be my hype

woman and then never leave my house.

202

:

I needed to set social goals too, that

that was an important aspect of my

203

:

life that I've maybe been lacking in.

204

:

And so.

205

:

I really think that all four

of these categories really

206

:

connect and tie together.

207

:

And they really, just like being the

best version of you will impact how

208

:

you show up in each of your roles, how

you're doing physically is going to

209

:

affect how you're doing mentally and

how you're doing mentally is going to

210

:

affect how you're doing spiritually.

211

:

Like they're all connected.

212

:

And the more like, well balanced, we

can be like, you wouldn't think it, But

213

:

having like good social relationships is

going to help you improve your mile time.

214

:

Like it's just, you know what I mean?

215

:

It's all so intertwined

and interconnected.

216

:

And so setting goals in four

different categories, and

217

:

these are the measurable goals.

218

:

So these are the ones that

are totally concrete non

219

:

negotiable if you did it or not.

220

:

It's not.

221

:

I want to be a better friend.

222

:

It's I want to reach out to three friends

this month or I want to you know It's

223

:

something really specific that you can

measure So I set goals in these four

224

:

different categories and then with that I

pair it with affirmations So we'll talk a

225

:

little bit about affirmations in a minute.

226

:

But So setting yearly goals, I think a

lot of people do like setting their New

227

:

Year's resolutions, but I think a key

in actually achieving those and staying

228

:

motivated all year long is setting

monthly goals in all four categories.

229

:

And so I actually use like a

goal setter is what I call it.

230

:

That helps me keep track of my goals

and I try to review it every single day.

231

:

So I'm reviewing my yearly goals

and my monthly goals every day.

232

:

And sometimes the monthly goals are

measurable goals that are kind of like

233

:

a bite sized piece of a yearly goal.

234

:

Like one of my yearly

goals is to read 12 books.

235

:

I'm trying to get into

reading a little more.

236

:

So one of my monthly goals

every month is to read one book.

237

:

So like, you know, it's like a

bite sized version of my goal.

238

:

Alex: Yeah.

239

:

Meagan: But other times it's

just like, okay, like this is

240

:

the month before I have a baby.

241

:

So one of my physical goals right

now is to have a 10 minute like

242

:

labor prep stretch every night.

243

:

So that's not necessarily

part of like a bigger goal.

244

:

It's just like what I need

right now in this moment.

245

:

And so setting goals that way, like helps

you to adjust your goals month to month.

246

:

It helps you to break down your New

Year's goals so that, you know, in

247

:

September, you're not like, shoot, I

said, I was going to read 12 books.

248

:

I've read zero.

249

:

So that's a lot more, you know, like

it helps you to stay on track with your

250

:

goals and feel motivated month to month

with the different things that you have.

251

:

Cause as human beings, we're constantly

like, fluctuating in our desires and our

252

:

motivation and all these different things.

253

:

And so setting monthly goals will

help meet you where you're at.

254

:

Maybe your January goals were really

good and you met them all because

255

:

you were feeling that like New

Year's fire and you reached them all.

256

:

And then maybe by like April, your goals

are a little bit smaller, but You're

257

:

being consistent, you're setting your

goals, you're showing up for yourself.

258

:

And like, that's going to be way more

impactful in the long term anyways,

259

:

than setting big goals all the time

and trying to like, wear yourself out

260

:

really, and feel burnt out by your

own goals, like adjusting them, maybe

261

:

like some months it's going to be a

lot less than other months, but that's

262

:

why setting them every single month

can help you to stay on track and stay

263

:

consistent within those measurable goals.

264

:

Does that

265

:

Alex: all make sense?

266

:

Yes.

267

:

And I totally love that because I

totally agree where it's like, I am,

268

:

my life is so like, it fluctuates

so much that the idea of setting

269

:

a goal for a year, I'm like, what?

270

:

That just feels like,

yeah, like way too much.

271

:

The other thing I was thinking about,

I was actually just thinking about this

272

:

like last week, because in January, like

273

:

even though like the world is setting

goals, like I'm kind of still in

274

:

like, I don't know, just that winter

mode of just like more slowness and

275

:

things like that, but as the, the

weather's been getting warmer and it's

276

:

like the, the growth time of year.

277

:

This is when I'm like, Ooh,

like I want to start doing this

278

:

and I want to start doing that.

279

:

And so I don't know how that relates

at all, but I just have been thinking

280

:

about like, I don't know, just

doing goals differently, I guess.

281

:

And just leaning, I guess, kind

of more like you were saying,

282

:

like your desires change and.

283

:

Just leaning into, like, what you

want and coming back to that personal

284

:

division, like, what do you even want?

285

:

Meagan: No, totally.

286

:

I feel like that's why monthly goals,

like, has totally shifted my perspective.

287

:

Because the person that you are in January

is not the person that you were today.

288

:

And that's never true.

289

:

The person that I was yesterday

is not who I am today.

290

:

Like, I've had different experiences.

291

:

You know, and so like, that's

all my goals and what I said.

292

:

And that's another thing I love

about the four categories too, is

293

:

like, maybe in January you're in this

like slow mode and your goals might

294

:

be more like spiritually focused.

295

:

Maybe it's like diving into the scriptures

and then maybe you're like doing that

296

:

really good for a couple of months.

297

:

And then by like March, you're like,

I feel like I need to move more.

298

:

And so, you know, your

spiritual goal stays.

299

:

Like, I want to see.

300

:

still do my 10 minute scripture study,

but I really want to incorporate like

301

:

30 plus maybe 40 minutes of exercise

five times a week or whatever.

302

:

And like your physical goals, you

might have like four or five physical

303

:

goals and one or two spiritual

goals, you know, and that's okay

304

:

for it to like, go back and forth.

305

:

That's how you find balance.

306

:

throughout the year is by focusing

on different things at different

307

:

times throughout the year.

308

:

Like it's not focusing on

everything equally all the time.

309

:

Alex: Yeah.

310

:

Meagan: What you need right then.

311

:

And then readjusting and

reevaluating every month.

312

:

Like, okay, I'm doing really good

in that, but I feel like I haven't

313

:

connected with my spouse as much and

I really want to work on date nights.

314

:

You know, like it going

to constantly love that.

315

:

Yeah.

316

:

I

317

:

Alex: love that so much.

318

:

Something that like I would love

to discuss is I think it can be

319

:

easy to base your value on how

you're doing with your goals.

320

:

What advice do you have, or I don't know,

thoughts you have on this topic of like,

321

:

how to use goals to help you progress,

but not use goals to like, beat yourself

322

:

up or become so like, obsessed with

them that they negatively impact you?

323

:

Does that make sense?

324

:

Totally.

325

:

Meagan: This is another reason I love

monthly goals because like maybe your

326

:

goals are just too big, you know,

like some people I meet with them and

327

:

they're like, this month I'm going

to launch an entire business and run

328

:

a marathon and like travel the year.

329

:

Like they just have like these

huge goals, like, and they're like,

330

:

and I want to do this every month

and continue it for my whole life.

331

:

And I'm like, wow, like.

332

:

I want that for you too.

333

:

Like if that's within your,

like, and like, go for it.

334

:

But a lot of times, like maybe

you'll set your monthly goals.

335

:

And if like, by the end of the

month, you're like, I didn't

336

:

hit a single one of these goals.

337

:

Like, okay, then the next month let's go

back and let's look at what you're doing,

338

:

what you really want to be doing, what

you prioritize the most and start with.

339

:

Simple, simple goals.

340

:

Like start with simple habits.

341

:

Yeah.

342

:

Because sometimes and a lot of times even

with people that are already that like go

343

:

getter personality, you're doing so much.

344

:

And sometimes what you're doing,

like you need to write that as a

345

:

goal with a little checkbox next

to it so that you can already see,

346

:

like, like it sounds silly, but maybe

you're like, make my bed every day.

347

:

And you're like, I already do that.

348

:

But by the end of the month, you're

gonna be like, yeah, I made my bed.

349

:

Every day like check like that

is something that I do that not

350

:

everyone does like we all have

our different things that we do.

351

:

And so recognize what you're doing

always and that's one of the things in

352

:

my goal setter to at the six month mark

I have a little like six month review

353

:

like and part of it is what have you

accomplished this year that wasn't a goal.

354

:

Because there are always things that

you're accomplishing and doing and

355

:

completing that we never even set

our minds to, but we did, you know.

356

:

Alex: Yes, 100%.

357

:

Meagan: We put our energy towards it.

358

:

So I think that, you know, adjusting

your goals and reviewing on what

359

:

you're actually doing can be helpful.

360

:

And then as well as affirmations.

361

:

I feel like ties into this and using

affirmations with your measurable goals,

362

:

because sometimes you won't reach these

concrete measurable goals that you set.

363

:

And that's where affirmations can

really help you remember your vision

364

:

and your why and remember that.

365

:

Your effort is really all you're

shooting for in the end, right?

366

:

Like sometimes we have these

goals, but like the journey

367

:

is like what you're in it for.

368

:

Like that's where the real progress

and growth and even fulfillment,

369

:

when you remind yourself that

that's where it should come from

370

:

is the progress, not the results.

371

:

And so using really powerful,

like self talk and I am statements

372

:

can really help you with that.

373

:

I don't know if you want to talk, like

just dump into affirmations or what?

374

:

No.

375

:

Alex: Yeah,

376

:

Meagan: totally.

377

:

Alex: Well, two things really quick

that you made me think of Oh, just

378

:

like you said, like, even if you like,

don't complete any of your goals, it's,

379

:

it's not about completing the goals.

380

:

It's about, yeah, like you say,

the progress and the learning

381

:

that comes going for your goals.

382

:

It reminds me, we're doing the, 1, 000

hours outside challenge this year and

383

:

Jenny, the founder of that, she always

says like, even if you fail, you win.

384

:

Cause even if you're like trying to

spend a thousand hours outside and

385

:

you only get however many hours, you

still spent time outside with your

386

:

family and had fun and made memories.

387

:

It's like, it's not

about the thousand hours.

388

:

It's about the.

389

:

Time outside with your family, you know,

it's not about the running the marathon.

390

:

It's about the, the getting into habits

and taking care of your body and the,

391

:

the endorphins, you know, and like the,

the way you show up because you exercise,

392

:

it's not about the goal in and of itself.

393

:

And then the other thing I was thinking

as you were talking is just I feel like

394

:

for myself, I can feel a difference if

I'm a setting a goal because I, I want

395

:

to be more like I'm not enough already.

396

:

So I'm like, Oh, if I run this marathon,

then I will be worthy or I'll be better

397

:

or I'll be almost like my value is tied

to achieving that goal where I feel

398

:

like I, I can set the same goal, but

feel different where it's like, no,

399

:

I'm doing this because it sounds fun.

400

:

And I want to, and I want to progress,

but I know that even if I don't

401

:

reach that goal, I am already enough.

402

:

I don't have to, to achieve

that, to become a better person.

403

:

Like I am worthy as I am.

404

:

So with that, I would love to dive

into the affirmation because I think

405

:

that's where you were getting with this.

406

:

So yeah.

407

:

Tell me more about affirmations.

408

:

Meagan: No.

409

:

And that's like exactly

what an affirmation is.

410

:

Right.

411

:

An affirmation is like setting that

measurable goal of like, I want to run a

412

:

marathon and then like, I mean, I don't

set an affirmation with every single

413

:

goal, but like, just like you said,

the affirmation with that is like, I am

414

:

enough as I am, and I'm working better

version of me, you know, like then not

415

:

hitting that goal when you, like, I

signed up for a half marathon and I was

416

:

training for it and then I couldn't do it.

417

:

And like, part of me was like, Failure.

418

:

I was like, . I was like,

I need look at a girl.

419

:

And I didn't do it like I had to back out.

420

:

It wasn't safe for me and my baby.

421

:

Like what the heck I was feeling so

like disappointed, but like my why or

422

:

even like my affirmation behind that

is like, I'm taking care of my body

423

:

and I wanna have a healthy pregnancy.

424

:

Like that's what the goal Yeah.

425

:

Really was.

426

:

Like the me school goal, the like

one that you can put on paper

427

:

that looks nice and neat was that

I wanted to run a half marathon.

428

:

The reason behind that was because

I was doing something I enjoyed.

429

:

I was taking care of my body.

430

:

I was trying to stay healthy.

431

:

I was staying active during

pregnancy, which are all things I

432

:

can accomplish without accomplishing

the measurable goal that I set

433

:

Alex: for it.

434

:

Yes.

435

:

Okay.

436

:

I love that so much.

437

:

And especially that example of that story.

438

:

Meagan: And so that's like, that's

why that vision is so important.

439

:

Like, I had to really like, fall

back on my vision of like, okay,

440

:

well, the best version of me,

what is she going to do when, when

441

:

she can't run the half marathon?

442

:

Like what, what is she, is she

going to be like, this is stupid

443

:

and give up and like give in?

444

:

Or is she going to be like,

okay, well, what can I do?

445

:

And I started like YouTubing,

like, Chair workouts, like,

446

:

actually do that were within my power

that did meet, you know, staying

447

:

active and doing my best and all

those good, warm, fuzzy things.

448

:

Alex: And you're Sorry, yeah, just like,

and you're why behind, behind the goal

449

:

of like, you wanted to be healthy for

yourself and healthy for your baby.

450

:

I just love that where it's like, it

wasn't healthy for you and your baby to

451

:

run the half marathon, even though that's

what you thought would keep you healthy.

452

:

Like, that's so cool.

453

:

Meagan: Like that wasn't, it

wasn't in alignment anymore.

454

:

Like it was originally like,

it was great just running.

455

:

And then suddenly, like very quickly,

actually, it wasn't the same thing.

456

:

Like being healthy and running the

half marathon were not the same thing.

457

:

And to me, being healthy is

way more important than getting

458

:

a t shirt, you know, like,

459

:

I was like, okay, no, like the

baby is like, actually, like,

460

:

I care way more about this.

461

:

And so with affirmations, like I

don't actually write affirmations

462

:

for every single goal, but it can

be helpful in times like that when

463

:

you're like looking at like, okay,

like, why am I so disappointed?

464

:

Point is that I didn't reach this goal.

465

:

What was I actually working towards?

466

:

Like what, what qualities, what

attributes was I working towards?

467

:

And then as a general rule, I

set monthly affirmations that

468

:

just helped me with the month.

469

:

And sometimes I keep them month to month.

470

:

I'm like, yeah, I could

still use that one.

471

:

And like, I have some memorized because

so my affirmations, I write them in my

472

:

goal setter, which I look at every day.

473

:

And then I also write

them down in a journal.

474

:

And I try to say them out loud.

475

:

I don't always do that when there's

someone else around, because sometimes I

476

:

feel silly and my husband's working from

home and I'm like, I'm making change.

477

:

Like one of my favorite affirmations

that I've used a lot of times is I am the

478

:

wife and mother I've always wanted to be.

479

:

And so like saying that out loud with

my husband around feels a little silly

480

:

because I've done it for you twice.

481

:

And he might be like, this is who

you've always wanted to be, but like

482

:

seeing that every day and then looking

at my goals, like I'm the wife and

483

:

mother I've always wanted to be.

484

:

And then looking at my measurable

goals of writing in my journal reading

485

:

my scriptures, working out every

day, it like takes on a new meaning.

486

:

Like I'm doing it because I'm the wife

and mother I've always wanted to be.

487

:

Like I need to be the best

version of myself for them.

488

:

Alex: I love that.

489

:

With affirmations, how do you,

I don't know how to say this

490

:

another way, but like, how do you

believe the things you're saying?

491

:

Totally.

492

:

Does that make sense?

493

:

Because sometimes I say things that I'm

like, this is just silly, like, I just

494

:

feel dumb saying this, but like, what

are, yeah, do you have any advice on like,

495

:

how to believe the things you're saying?

496

:

Meagan: No, I get that question a

lot actually, so it's something I've

497

:

kind of pondered and I do think that

when you're doing it right, it should

498

:

feel a little silly at first, , like

if you haven't done affirmations

499

:

or haven't ever loved affirmations,

then when you first start doing them

500

:

consistently, it almost should feel silly.

501

:

Like you should be stretching

yourself a little bit.

502

:

But if it just feels like completely

unbelievable, like, like you're

503

:

like, I just, that's not who I am.

504

:

Then, like, sometimes that means,

like, you should scale it back and look

505

:

at, like, Okay, let me find something

that I do believe about myself.

506

:

Like, maybe maybe you're,

like, your affirmation of, I am

507

:

punctual and show up on time.

508

:

You're like, I'm not, though.

509

:

I am late everywhere I go.

510

:

I'm never on time.

511

:

That just isn't true to me.

512

:

Well, are you consistent?

513

:

Maybe your affirmation

is, I am consistent.

514

:

And I prioritize what's most

important to me and maybe that's

515

:

not being on time right now.

516

:

Maybe that's not your affirmation.

517

:

Yes.

518

:

If your affirmation right now is I'm

consistent, every day I show up 15

519

:

minutes late or whatever it is, you know,

but focusing on those positive aspects

520

:

that you can believe about yourself.

521

:

Like, well, I am doing this.

522

:

Like sometimes it comes to

our physical attributes.

523

:

Like if saying like, I am so beautiful

and my body is worthy of love and

524

:

acceptance for some people that's.

525

:

So far out of reach.

526

:

And so for an affirmation, like find

one thing that you love about yourself.

527

:

Like, I love my eyelashes.

528

:

And I embrace them, you know, like

starting wherever something's small and

529

:

then building from there and just getting

that little stretch where you're like,

530

:

that still feels awkward to compliment

myself, or that still feels awkward to

531

:

acknowledge the good that I am doing.

532

:

Like that's okay.

533

:

If it feels a little silly and

then just stretching yourself.

534

:

So that you're constantly like getting

more comfortable talking about the person

535

:

that you want to be, and that you can be

like, I genuinely believe that anyone can

536

:

become anyone that they want to, and they

choose who they are every single day.

537

:

Like maybe today you are going

to be your affirmation and you're

538

:

going to nail it, you know?

539

:

And so you got to keep like pushing

yourself and stretching yourself,

540

:

even when it feels silly, because.

541

:

Telling yourself every day, I'm the wife

and mother I've always wanted to be,

542

:

versus I am always fighting with my spouse

and I never give my child the attention he

543

:

deserves, that's not the mom I want to be.

544

:

And telling myself that isn't

going to make me a better mom.

545

:

But reminding myself that I'm the wife

and mother I've always wanted to be, then

546

:

maybe in the middle of losing my crop.

547

:

I will have that come to my mind because

I've said it so many times and I'll take

548

:

a deep breath and I'm like, okay, that

wasn't the wife and mother I wanted to be.

549

:

So who can I be right now?

550

:

And I'm like, okay, let's start

with an apology and a hug and you

551

:

know, affirmation because it will

become part of that natural self

552

:

talk after so much repetition.

553

:

Alex: Yes.

554

:

I love that so much.

555

:

That's something that I have done

with my clients is just, yeah.

556

:

If they don't believe something that, you

know, the affirmation, I don't usually.

557

:

Use that word, but if they don't believe

the affirmation, it's like, okay,

558

:

let's work on those underlying beliefs.

559

:

Like what?

560

:

Yeah.

561

:

What do you believe?

562

:

What shifts can we make in your beliefs

that you actually believe instead of

563

:

yeah, just like saying something to

yourself that you don't actually believe.

564

:

So I love that.

565

:

I'm just like, yeah, stretching it, but

like shifting those underlying beliefs.

566

:

And, like you say, just the power of

words, like, if you are always saying,

567

:

Oh, I, I always blow up on my kids.

568

:

I always do this.

569

:

I always do that.

570

:

It's like, that's a self

fulfilling prophecy.

571

:

Like, the more you say things,

my husband and I talk about this

572

:

all the time of just like being

really careful of like what we say.

573

:

And it's something I'm actively

working on, but like, even like,

574

:

How we want to view finances, where

I think we used to always be like,

575

:

Oh, like that's so expensive, or

this is so expensive or whatever.

576

:

And it's like, you know, like, I

don't want to think that's expensive.

577

:

Like, I don't, I don't

want to view life that way.

578

:

I don't know.

579

:

I said, just, I feel like that's a little

bit different, but just, yeah, I'm just

580

:

being very aware of like the things you

say about yourself and about others and

581

:

about the way that you live your life.

582

:

It's really powerful, like it

impacts you more than you, you think.

583

:

Meagan: Like I always say, you're

already using affirmations.

584

:

Everyone's already using them.

585

:

You're probably not loving the

affirmations that you're giving

586

:

yourself, but you're affirming beliefs.

587

:

I am so tired.

588

:

I'm so exhausted.

589

:

I'm so overwhelmed.

590

:

I'm so overstimulated all the time.

591

:

I'm always behind on the laundry.

592

:

All affirmations.

593

:

Are they affirmations?

594

:

Are they that you want?

595

:

Is that like something that

you wanna be and become?

596

:

Probably not . And so like looking

those into, I'm feeling tired, so

597

:

I'm gonna prioritize my energy today.

598

:

Like, you know, like,

what can you focus on?

599

:

Like, where can you put that?

600

:

That's what you want.

601

:

That's who you want to be like.

602

:

Yeah.

603

:

Alex: And I'm definitely, I love that

you're already using affirmations.

604

:

You just don't know it.

605

:

You just, okay.

606

:

That's good.

607

:

Okay.

608

:

So I'd love to talk about like,

kind of taking the things that

609

:

we've talked about and how can

someone apply both like the personal

610

:

vision and goals to their business?

611

:

Meagan: Yes, I mean, I think

it's all connected just like

612

:

the four different categories.

613

:

Like if you run an operative business

or you want to start a business, like

614

:

that's likely part of your vision.

615

:

And if it's not, maybe you should think

about why you're starting a business.

616

:

You know, like really evaluate,

like, is this something that

617

:

I want to do or continue doing

if you already have a business?

618

:

Like making sure it's all connected.

619

:

It's in line with your vision.

620

:

I think sometimes it can be caught up

in like, because I feel like I need

621

:

to financially contribute instead of

this is what I really want to be doing.

622

:

You know, like finding that passion

and making sure it's in line with

623

:

your vision will remind you why you're

putting work in, which is important

624

:

when you're already busy with a bunch

of things, like remind yourself why

625

:

you're doing it, why you care about it,

why you get excited about what you do.

626

:

And then from there, like you can

set personal goals that will help

627

:

you directly with your business too.

628

:

Like while we should work on ourselves

and that will naturally affect our

629

:

business and the rest of our lives you

can include your business in your vision

630

:

and your goals and your affirmations.

631

:

Like if you are a coach of any

kind, like Put that in your

632

:

affirmations when you're really

working on your business that month.

633

:

I am an influential coach to

hundreds of people or I am

634

:

going to reach one person today.

635

:

I am, you know, whatever it is

that you're like, I really want

636

:

to do this, like include that in

your goals and in your vision.

637

:

And that energy that you're creating

from your personal goals will transfer

638

:

into like, Your vision for your

business as well and you can do a whole

639

:

like you can set your personal goals

and your business goals, you know,

640

:

like, and have just totally like a

business affirmation, business, monthly

641

:

goals, business, all these things.

642

:

One thing though, that I'll mention

with goals that I haven't mentioned

643

:

yet is that when these things are

measurable, we need to make sure they're

644

:

always, always in our control, 100%.

645

:

And so setting a goal, like I

want to reach 5, 000 followers.

646

:

Not in your control.

647

:

You could say, I want to post five times

a week in your control, you can do it.

648

:

And hopefully, maybe you're

hoping to have more followers,

649

:

more reach, whatever it is.

650

:

But like hoping for like setting

even financial goals, I think can be

651

:

sometimes a red flag because again,

you might be tying your worth to

652

:

them and you can't influence them.

653

:

Maybe you're saying I'm going to make.

654

:

1, 000 in sales, 10, 000 in sales.

655

:

But in reality, you can choose what

you post, where you focus your time.

656

:

Who you're reaching out to, what

connections you're making, but you can't

657

:

press that pay button for somebody else,

you know, and so when setting goals,

658

:

specifically in business, it's important

to remember that you're setting goals in

659

:

your control, 100 percent doesn't require

anyone else to accomplish those goals.

660

:

Alex: I think that is so important.

661

:

And it actually, one of my first business

mentors and she was talking about this.

662

:

I think I was working on some offer or

something and had wanted to have some goal

663

:

for how many people like join this offer.

664

:

And she just recommended like, instead

of having a goal for how many people

665

:

join the offer, have a goal for how

many, times you talk about the offer.

666

:

And that was so helpful for me.

667

:

So she, I even had like a spreadsheet

of like talking about a hundred times.

668

:

And so like, like you say, that was

something I could control and it would

669

:

influence how many people signed up,

you know, but yeah, I, I love that.

670

:

Like focusing on things.

671

:

That are completely in your control

and it just feels better to you know,

672

:

it doesn't feel good to Control things

that are outside of your control.

673

:

Meagan: Yeah Like staring at a sales

number and like refreshing it and hoping

674

:

and praying that like people are gonna

buy it Like that feels so like Helpless,

675

:

like there's nothing you can do.

676

:

Looking at like your posts for the

month or whatever and being like,

677

:

okay, like this posted really well.

678

:

I can post this.

679

:

I can share this.

680

:

I can, it gives you like an

action item behind the goal.

681

:

Like having a goal that you can't directly

work towards, like that's going to end up

682

:

feeling really like frustrating and scary.

683

:

Like it's not in your control.

684

:

You can't, you can't choose

to achieve it, you know?

685

:

Alex: Totally.

686

:

And this is something that I end up

working with, with my clients who,

687

:

Cause I focus on business owners who

use social media and just how it's

688

:

really easy to get caught up in like

the external results of like, well, my

689

:

content was doing well, but like now

I'm not getting as much engagement.

690

:

And it's like, it's not about that.

691

:

You know, like, like I like to only

look at the insights of my posts,

692

:

like either a week at a time or a

month at a time to see like what.

693

:

What people are responding to

like as data, but not as like

694

:

like a description of my value.

695

:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

696

:

Perfect.

697

:

A measure of success.

698

:

It's like data for what's going to

work, but not a measure of success.

699

:

Yes, totally.

700

:

Exactly.

701

:

I love that.

702

:

Okay.

703

:

If somebody only takes one thing away

from this call today, what would that be?

704

:

What would you want them to take away?

705

:

Meagan: Probably that working

on yourself is selfless.

706

:

And it's never too late to start.

707

:

Ever.

708

:

Like, you can start, Happy New Year.

709

:

There are 365 days between

now and next June 5th.

710

:

Now is a great time to set

some goals and sit down.

711

:

And like, give yourself a break.

712

:

self and the people around you the

version of you that you deserve like you

713

:

deserve to be so happy with who you are

and so happy with how you're showing up

714

:

physically mentally spiritually socially

like you deserve to love yourself and like

715

:

that might feel crazy or weird or silly or

even ostentatious to say but like you do

716

:

like you deserve to love like who you are

and you're worth working towards, even if

717

:

you feel like you're starting too late.

718

:

There is no such thing.

719

:

Like jump in and give yourself

the attention that you deserve.

720

:

Alex: Okay, I love that so much.

721

:

So beautiful.

722

:

Where can my listeners find you

and how can they work with you?

723

:

Meagan: So my Instagram is goal.

724

:

getter.

725

:

girls and my website is

goalgettergirls with an s dot com.

726

:

So that's where you can book any

like coaching sessions with me

727

:

or get one of my goal setters.

728

:

But I'm on Instagram, so anyone

can send me a DM or connect with

729

:

me over there, comment, and we can

connect that way and see like what

730

:

would be most helpful for them.

731

:

Alex: Okay, perfect.

732

:

I love that.
