Speaker:

I've coached nearly 100 women about their screen time,

2

:

and here's what I've learned.

3

:

Women actually don't care about their

screen time, they care about those things

4

:

that are impacted by their screen time.

5

:

Their ability to be patient with their

kids, the growth of their business,

6

:

having time to pursue their creative

dreams, their relationship with their

7

:

husband, the inner peace that they feel,

their confidence in themselves, their

8

:

Connection with God, their friendships

not missing out on their kids' childhoods.

9

:

I'm Alex and I'm here to

help you find inner peace.

10

:

Enjoy true fulfillment

and be fully present.

11

:

Welcome to the Mindful with Media Podcast.

12

:

Welcome back to the podcast.

13

:

My son he's three and a half now, but

he, especially more when he was two.

14

:

He would often ask for.

15

:

A lot of whatever we were serving him.

16

:

For example, like when we'd be getting

him yogurt or cottage cheese, he would

17

:

say, can I have a lot, can I have a lot?

18

:

And say, yeah, you can have a lot

or we just dish it up for him.

19

:

And then he would ask, is this a lot?

20

:

Yes.

21

:

It's a lot, which is such

a relative term, right?

22

:

Like.

23

:

We just told him it was a lot because

that's that's can be so ambiguous.

24

:

And I've noticed that the same thing.

25

:

Can happen with how people feel about

Instagram and different metrics on

26

:

Instagram, whether that's how many

followers you have, or how many

27

:

views your reels get, or how many.

28

:

Likes or saves or shares or comments like.

29

:

Our perception of.

30

:

All of those metrics

is a very relative and.

31

:

I've noticed that it's can

be easy to use those metrics.

32

:

So that Instagram becomes a place

of seeking external validation and.

33

:

Using those vanity metrics to judge

whether or not our business is working.

34

:

Or even if we're valuable.

35

:

And of worth as individuals.

36

:

That it can, it can get

really muddy, muddled.

37

:

What does that word.

38

:

It can get confusing there.

39

:

And I have a very different approach to.

40

:

Using Instagram to market my

business and I always have.

41

:

And.

42

:

So I want to share that with you today.

43

:

My unconventional approach

to Instagram marketing.

44

:

I am fascinated by.

45

:

Instagram marketing.

46

:

I.

47

:

Love learning about all the

different hacks and how the

48

:

algorithm works and growth tips.

49

:

And.

50

:

Really anything and

everything when it comes to.

51

:

Instagram marketing.

52

:

I I love and I have learned so much.

53

:

But I do things really differently.

54

:

And I intentionally don't follow.

55

:

All of the things that Instagram experts.

56

:

It's teach.

57

:

And there are a lot of different

reasons that I do this, but one is

58

:

because it can so quickly and so easily.

59

:

Become a distraction or a time

sucker from what will actually

60

:

help your business the most.

61

:

And.

62

:

I am not here to help you grow

your followers on social media.

63

:

I believe that you.

64

:

Have enough followers to.

65

:

Already make money from who's

in your audience right now.

66

:

And even if you focus on.

67

:

Selling to them and I'm

not just selling to them.

68

:

We'll get into that.

69

:

But like, even if you

just focus on serving.

70

:

Who's already in your audience.

71

:

You will naturally grow.

72

:

It won't be fast growth,

but you will actually grow.

73

:

And you will attract people who

actually want to be part of your

74

:

audience and want to be sold to.

75

:

So.

76

:

I'm not here to help you grow.

77

:

I'm not here to help you go viral.

78

:

I'm not even here to help

you get tons of engagement.

79

:

Instead, I am here to help you do three

things with your Instagram marketing.

80

:

Number one.

81

:

To actually make money.

82

:

Number two is to have an impact for good.

83

:

That is something that's really

important to me is to actually

84

:

serve the people in my audience.

85

:

And I believe that if you're here, that

that's the type of business owner that

86

:

you are, that you really want to have

a positive impact with your, your voice

87

:

and with the things that you've learned.

88

:

And then third.

89

:

That's really important to me with.

90

:

My Instagram marketing and for.

91

:

That I want to help you as well,

is that it can be a creative outlet

92

:

for you, and it can be a enjoyable

creative process to create.

93

:

And so I'll get into some tips later.

94

:

But, like I said, I just

don't want to let Instagram.

95

:

Distract you from, well, actually

move the needle in your business.

96

:

And I'm sure you've heard

people talk about how.

97

:

You really don't have to

use social media at all to.

98

:

Make money from your business.

99

:

I personally really enjoy Instagram.

100

:

It feels like a really fun way to.

101

:

Market my business.

102

:

And so I choose to use it as

my main form of marketing.

103

:

But you really don't have to,

if it's becoming more of a.

104

:

Distraction then it is helpful.

105

:

That's.

106

:

A distraction from like things in your

business, or even just a distraction

107

:

from what you really want out of life.

108

:

If that's being present with your kids or.

109

:

Enjoying time to yourself and

like other creative pursuits.

110

:

You can be so focused on creating content

or gaining followers that you never

111

:

actually make money from your business.

112

:

And so I'm here to say, to encourage

you to spend less time making content

113

:

and more time creating offers.

114

:

Spend less time.

115

:

Creating perfect posts or

really beautiful posts.

116

:

And more time doing market research

to find out what your audience

117

:

actually wants to pay you for.

118

:

And I will say that my content

that is focused on selling, or

119

:

even just more like my strategy.

120

:

Generally does not get as much engagement.

121

:

Especially those posts that

are focused on selling.

122

:

But it does make a much deeper

impact on the people that do buy.

123

:

And I've shared this story before, but.

124

:

I want to say it was like

a year ago or something.

125

:

Posted something and it got

relatively low engagement.

126

:

Even for like my normal

engagement, which I don't usually

127

:

get like super high engagement.

128

:

Again, all relative.

129

:

But it was relatively low.

130

:

For me.

131

:

And.

132

:

Later.

133

:

It was like a long time later.

134

:

I don't know, maybe like a month or two.

135

:

I had more than one person DME about

that post and how it impacted them.

136

:

And then I had a client bring

it up in a one-on-one call

137

:

about that post specifically.

138

:

And so this is all to say

that like, Engagement is just.

139

:

It's it doesn't paint the whole

picture of how you're impacting people.

140

:

And so I care a lot more about.

141

:

Really trying to serve

people through my content.

142

:

Whether that's serving them

through my content itself,

143

:

like providing that free value.

144

:

Or.

145

:

Serving them so that they know

what I'm offering and how they can.

146

:

Get more help for me.

147

:

That feels like.

148

:

I don't know, that's the

approach that I like.

149

:

Instead of focusing on.

150

:

Certain.

151

:

Hacks or whatever too.

152

:

To grow my account and, and

like, not to say that I don't.

153

:

Implement.

154

:

Like best practices when it

comes to social media marketing,

155

:

especially on Instagram.

156

:

But.

157

:

It's it's secondary.

158

:

Because, yeah, again, you can get

so focused on creating content.

159

:

For the algorithm that you miss out

on the joy and the fun of the creative

160

:

process, because you feel so stuck

in trying to do it the right way.

161

:

Or you can get so obsessed with your

metrics that you miss out on the joy of

162

:

having a positive impact because your.

163

:

You are so focused on all this didn't

perform as well, instead of just.

164

:

Believing that you're having a

positive impact, whether or not

165

:

the, the metrics necessarily.

166

:

Show that.

167

:

And.

168

:

I actually have so many ideas.

169

:

That I intentionally don't do because

of the time and effort it would take,

170

:

whether that's certain trends that are

going on that I, I just don't want to

171

:

take the time out of my Workday to do,

or out of my time with my kids to do or.

172

:

Like recording certain B roll often.

173

:

You'll notice I just

use B roll from my life.

174

:

Like.

175

:

I don't do anything extra.

176

:

Or like certain, like types of videos

that would require more editing.

177

:

Like I just.

178

:

Intentionally decide that

that's not worth my time.

179

:

Right now I just do the basics and.

180

:

So if.

181

:

What Instagram experts are

teaching doesn't work for me.

182

:

And not just doesn't work for

me, but just doesn't support what

183

:

I want most than I don't do it.

184

:

So like spending tons of time

on hashtags, I kind of dislike.

185

:

First things that come to mind.

186

:

That's what I do for hashtags

or posting a certain times, or.

187

:

I don't know, graphic design things.

188

:

And again like this, isn't saying you

just like throw it out the window,

189

:

but it's just a Wayne, like is taking

time to either learn this or do this.

190

:

Worth.

191

:

Missing out on these other things,

like, is it really worth it?

192

:

And again, like coming back to

perfectionism in your content.

193

:

I.

194

:

We'll never forget this quote that

I learned from one of my first

195

:

business mentors done is better

than perfect or as Voltaire.

196

:

Said perfect is the enemy of good.

197

:

And you really won't serve anyone

or have any impact if you're so

198

:

caught up in making perfect content.

199

:

So let's get into some tips to help.

200

:

I think I have.

201

:

Five tips to share today.

202

:

The first thing.

203

:

Is to get really clear on

why you have your business.

204

:

And then why you're

specifically using Instagram.

205

:

To market your business or not

even to market your business.

206

:

Why are you using Instagram in general?

207

:

So, Some examples.

208

:

My top reasons for spending

time and energy on my business.

209

:

I am so passionate about what I do.

210

:

Aye.

211

:

Love.

212

:

Helping moms actually make

consistent money from their business.

213

:

In a way that aligns with

the lifestyle that they want.

214

:

Which is often not spending tons of time.

215

:

On their business and.

216

:

Using social media to market

their business without.

217

:

Letting it take over their life.

218

:

I just love watching and helping women.

219

:

Grow their businesses.

220

:

Second.

221

:

My business is an outlet for me.

222

:

I really like having time away

from my kids to do something.

223

:

That's.

224

:

Mentally stimulating for me.

225

:

That's.

226

:

I'm passionate about, and it's

just so fun and fulfilling for me.

227

:

And I feel like it really does help me.

228

:

Be a better mom and a better

wife and just a better person.

229

:

And so that's my second reason.

230

:

And then third.

231

:

Aye.

232

:

Make money to support my

family, especially as Matt

233

:

has stopped working full time.

234

:

This is becoming more of a.

235

:

Primary source of our income.

236

:

And so.

237

:

That's more of a newer reason,

but it's becoming Yeah.

238

:

A way too.

239

:

Financially provide for our family.

240

:

And then why Instagram specifically?

241

:

As I shared earlier.

242

:

I just really like Instagram.

243

:

It's really fun for me.

244

:

It's really easy.

245

:

I love being able to share my thoughts

and ideas with a lot of people in such a.

246

:

Relatively simple way.

247

:

And I love providing free values

for moms and business owners.

248

:

Second.

249

:

I specifically use Instagram

because I like to learn from other

250

:

business owners and also just.

251

:

Like learn about business,

but also learn about.

252

:

Parenting and mindfulness

and things like that.

253

:

So I love using Instagram for that.

254

:

And also just connecting.

255

:

I feel like I've met a lot of my

coaches via Instagram and also with.

256

:

Other business owners and

I've become a good friend.

257

:

So I love using it as a

way to connect and learn.

258

:

And then third.

259

:

I specifically, specifically

like to use Instagram.

260

:

Two.

261

:

Share about my offers and how to work

with me, because it feels like such a

262

:

natural extension of the free value that.

263

:

I already am providing on Instagram.

264

:

And so Instagram is where

I find most of my clients.

265

:

And so that's why I

continued to use Instagram.

266

:

So this can be really helpful for you.

267

:

It's just get really clear on.

268

:

Y.

269

:

Why do you have your business?

270

:

I would come up with three

reasons on why you're spending

271

:

time and effort on your business.

272

:

And then why Instagram?

273

:

Why do you use Instagram?

274

:

And that that's kind of like the

foundation that will help you.

275

:

Make some other decisions.

276

:

So.

277

:

Tip number two.

278

:

Too.

279

:

Help you with your.

280

:

Instagram strategy.

281

:

That's.

282

:

Unconventional.

283

:

Is to make sure that you need nothing.

284

:

From Instagram.

285

:

I haven't noticed that.

286

:

It can be really easy.

287

:

Kind of like I mentioned earlier

to start to rely on Instagram.

288

:

As a form of validation as a

form, even like I said, like

289

:

connection, if that's your only way

of you're connecting with people.

290

:

That you, you want to make sure that.

291

:

You have connection outside of Instagram?

292

:

We're outside of your

business, even just like.

293

:

Just start to pay attention.

294

:

Y you're turning to Instagram.

295

:

And then.

296

:

Write those things down.

297

:

And then brainstorm ways that you

can make sure that you can, you

298

:

have those needs met somewhere else.

299

:

So like if it's.

300

:

Validation.

301

:

K.

302

:

Where do you want your

validation to come from?

303

:

As a business owner, as a

person, as an individual.

304

:

If you're looking for an escape from.

305

:

Your kids.

306

:

And so you turn to Instagram where.

307

:

People like you more.

308

:

Or you want to see if you have some more.

309

:

Comments or DMS or whatever,

get that dopamine hit.

310

:

Okay.

311

:

How can you.

312

:

Recognize what's actually

going on for you.

313

:

And get those true needs met

instead of turning to Instagram.

314

:

I could go in.

315

:

Um, About that all day, but just make

sure that you need nothing from Instagram.

316

:

And it'll be a lot easier to show up

authentically on there and serve people.

317

:

From a place of not needing.

318

:

Not needing views or engagement too.

319

:

Validate you as a person

or as a business owner.

320

:

Third tip is to.

321

:

When you're creating content.

322

:

Make sure to create for.

323

:

The idea of someone who is so excited.

324

:

To see that you've posted.

325

:

I've noticed this my

past self and clients.

326

:

Where sometimes I'm recreating content.

327

:

We subconsciously start to think about.

328

:

Certain people that we know

personally and how they might judge

329

:

either what we're doing in our

business or what we're posting.

330

:

Right.

331

:

And so then you subconsciously

start creating for them and you're

332

:

creating from this place of like,

333

:

Trying to convince people or like

just feeling dumb or it's just

334

:

not a great place to create from.

335

:

So that's why I really like to, I don't.

336

:

Create for those people.

337

:

Instead I create for someone who.

338

:

No matter what I post, she loves it.

339

:

She's so excited to see that I've posted.

340

:

Because she's obsessed

with everything I share.

341

:

I share.

342

:

And again, It shouldn't be someone,

you know, just the idea of a person.

343

:

So I guess kind of like an activity

to help you to create for her more.

344

:

Think about that person.

345

:

And then think about how do you want

her to feel when she sees your content?

346

:

Relieved understood.

347

:

Connected.

348

:

Valued.

349

:

Hope loved.

350

:

Joy.

351

:

Laughter.

352

:

How do you want her to feel?

353

:

And choose three words that you want

her to feel when she sees your content

354

:

or when she binges your Instagram feed.

355

:

Then after you've chosen

those three words.

356

:

Set a timer for 10 minutes

and scroll through Instagram.

357

:

Either you can scroll through

your feed or you could scroll

358

:

through like the reels tab.

359

:

And notice which posts make you feel?

360

:

Those three things.

361

:

And I would make sure to have the Google

doc out as you're doing this activity.

362

:

And just think about.

363

:

What about those posts

make you feel that way?

364

:

Which ones pull you in.

365

:

Like, why are you drawn to these posts?

366

:

Specifically?

367

:

And just take some notes on what,

what about it makes you feel that way?

368

:

So then when you're creating

content and you start to have

369

:

any subconscious thoughts about.

370

:

What people, certain people might think

about your posts or things like that.

371

:

Take a step back and think about her,

create for the person who is excited.

372

:

To consume whatever you share,

because she already loves.

373

:

You and what you share.

374

:

And then create that

content that helps her feel.

375

:

Those three words.

376

:

K tip number four.

377

:

Is two.

378

:

Focus on.

379

:

Time.

380

:

Instead of frequency when it comes to

your content creation, you often hear

381

:

the importance of posting consistently

. Or like the whole debate of quality

382

:

versus quantity, yada, yada, yada.

383

:

My perspective is that it's actually

been helpful for me instead of

384

:

deciding a frequency to post,

like how often I want to post.

385

:

You know, whether that's daily or

three times a week or whatever it is.

386

:

Instead.

387

:

I like to just choose an amount

of time that I want to devote

388

:

to content creation each week.

389

:

So that I make sure that

I'm not wasting all my time.

390

:

All my work time, creating content,

and I still have time for those

391

:

other, other things that actually.

392

:

Help me make money.

393

:

An activity that can help with this.

394

:

Just to get.

395

:

Faster at creating content

and also let go of.

396

:

Perfectionism.

397

:

If you tend to get perfectionistic

about your content is set

398

:

a timer for 30 minutes.

399

:

And.

400

:

Just try to create as many

pieces of content as you can.

401

:

You don't have to post these.

402

:

And as you're creating these, as

you're creating all these pieces

403

:

of content, remember to create for.

404

:

Her that that person we talked about.

405

:

Who is so excited.

406

:

To see whatever you post.

407

:

And this activity it'll help you.

408

:

Get faster at creating content.

409

:

And then if you want to, you'll have

lots of content that you can share.

410

:

Okay.

411

:

And then tip number five is two.

412

:

Set up a content creation

schedule or a system.

413

:

That works for you personally.

414

:

And you'll hear all these tips

about batching or things like that.

415

:

And so I used to try to batch

and it just did not work for me.

416

:

I think coming back to those three

things that really matter to me in.

417

:

My Instagram marketing strategy is

making money, having an impact for good.

418

:

And then.

419

:

A creative outlet.

420

:

And so when I found, when I

was batching too much, it.

421

:

It like took the creativity

out of it for me.

422

:

And I just, I don't know,

it just didn't work for me.

423

:

So.

424

:

My favorite thing is to.

425

:

Choose a certain time once a week.

426

:

Set aside time for one hour.

427

:

And.

428

:

Ask God to help me.

429

:

Know what to share with

my audience that week.

430

:

Sometimes I'll follow some.

431

:

More of like a schedule,

especially if I'm launching

432

:

something, I'll follow more of a.

433

:

Guidelines with that.

434

:

And if not, then I just

choose a focus for the week.

435

:

And then I just.

436

:

I like to outline every piece of content.

437

:

Like word for word.

438

:

So then during the week, When I

go to post it's already outlined.

439

:

And I can either just like

create the carousel on Canva.

440

:

Like the graphic, or I can just make

the real, but I don't have to do all the

441

:

brainwork of like what to say for the.

442

:

Text or the caption or things like that.

443

:

So that's, what's worked for me.

444

:

Some questions to help you

decide what you want to do.

445

:

Do you want to choose a posting frequency?

446

:

Or would you rather.

447

:

Choose a time commitment.

448

:

And if you do do want to

do a time commitment, like.

449

:

When, when will that be?

450

:

Or also.

451

:

You can do something else.

452

:

You too, you don't have to do like

a frequency or time commitment.

453

:

You can just post

whenever you feel like it.

454

:

And.

455

:

You can see success, especially if your

success as defined by making money.

456

:

Having a positive impact.

457

:

And.

458

:

. Creating content as a

creative outlet, like having.

459

:

Doing the creative process.

460

:

If that's your metrics for success.

461

:

You can do that without doing things

the way that everyone says to.

462

:

Some of their questions to ponder as

you're kind of setting up your own.

463

:

Schedule or system.

464

:

How much time do you want to

spend outlining content each week?

465

:

How much time do you want to

spend creating content each week?

466

:

When do you want to outline content?

467

:

When do you want to create content?

468

:

And do you want to.

469

:

Batch it like certain times for

filming B roll or certain times for

470

:

editing videos, certain times for.

471

:

Canva like doing graphics on Canva.

472

:

And then I think the most

important question is when

473

:

will you not create content?

474

:

I think you can relate

that as a business owner.

475

:

You could always be creating

more content, right?

476

:

There's not really a limit on how much

content you can create and often ideas

477

:

just come to you for content ideas.

478

:

And so.

479

:

It can be easy to just try

to create it right then.

480

:

But I like to have some

pretty clear boundaries around

481

:

when I don't create content.

482

:

Especially if I'm wanting to have

intentional present time with my kids,

483

:

even if idea an idea comes to me.

484

:

I just asked him the father that

if he wants me to share that,

485

:

to remind me at another time.

486

:

And it also, when I'm my like nighttime,

that's another time that I will.

487

:

Never create content

during my bedtime hours.

488

:

I don't even write the ideas down anymore.

489

:

And I know that again.

490

:

Like that might not resonate for

you that might not work for you, but

491

:

that has worked really well for me

to have some clear boundaries abound.

492

:

When I, when I don't create.

493

:

Content.

494

:

When I don't go on Instagram

too, we can get into that too.

495

:

As far as like,

496

:

Not just creating content, but also like.

497

:

When to use Instagram.

498

:

Anyways, I'm done.

499

:

K just to recap today.

500

:

I don't do things the way that

most Instagram experts teach.

501

:

And it's very intentional, even

though I know certain things.

502

:

And I.

503

:

Care less about growing

your followers going viral.

504

:

I care or getting engagement and I

care more about using Instagram to make

505

:

money, have an impact for good and enjoy.

506

:

The creative process.

507

:

Some tips to help.

508

:

Think about.

509

:

Three reasons why you spend time

and their energy on your business.

510

:

And then three reasons

why you use Instagram.

511

:

Second tip.

512

:

Think about what you're

secretly needing from Instagram.

513

:

And brainstorm ways that you

can make sure that you have

514

:

those needs met somewhere else.

515

:

Tip number three.

516

:

Whenever you're creating content.

517

:

Think about.

518

:

Your ideal client who loves

anything that you share?

519

:

Tip number four.

520

:

Focus on how much time you're

spending on creating content instead

521

:

of how frequently you're posting.

522

:

And then fifth and finally create a

content creation schedule or system.

523

:

That works for you personally.

524

:

And with that, be open to it.

525

:

Changing and shifting and you don't have

to be like so stuck in originated ways.

526

:

But just start to experiment

what works for you.

527

:

If you.

528

:

found this podcast helpful, please.

529

:

Sure it, whether that's on your

Instagram stories or send it to a friend.

530

:

That.

531

:

Helps me a lot.

532

:

Thank you so much.

533

:

And we'll talk to you next.
