2

:

I got to interview.

3

:

Allie Glover.

4

:

And she is a social media

manager and content strategist.

5

:

And in our interview, we talk about.

6

:

Why social media gets a bad rap,

7

:

how to create content in a way

that's fun and inspiring instead

8

:

of getting caught up in the game

or comparing yourself to others.

9

:

Where to get content

ideas when you feel stuck.

10

:

And how to be consistent while

also being flexible and not so

11

:

robotic in the creation process.

12

:

If you.

13

:

Create your own content.

14

:

You are going to love this episode.

15

:

I've coached nearly 100 women about their

screen time, and here's what I've learned.

16

:

Women actually don't care about their

screen time, they care about those things

17

:

that are impacted by their screen time.

18

:

Their ability to be patient with their

kids, the growth of their business,

19

:

having time to pursue their creative

dreams, their relationship with their

20

:

husband, the inner peace that they feel,

their confidence in themselves, their

21

:

connection to the world, their ability

to Connection with God, their friendships

22

:

not missing out on their kids' childhoods.

23

:

I'm Alex and I'm here to

help you find inner peace.

24

:

Enjoy true fulfillment

and be fully present.

25

:

Welcome to the Mindful with Media Podcast.

26

:

Alex: I am so excited to

have Allie Glover here today.

27

:

So do you want to go ahead and

introduce yourself a little bit?

28

:

Thank

29

:

Ally: you for having me.

30

:

As Alex mentioned, my name is Allie.

31

:

I own my own social media

management and photography

32

:

business called Hey Allie Glover.

33

:

I kind of named it after me because

I feel like I, chase after people

34

:

and do all the things that they

don't want to do in the social media

35

:

world, which is actually super fun.

36

:

I love it.

37

:

And I started my photography

business in:

38

:

hit, back in the good old days.

39

:

And then it kind of evolved from there, I

got my first like social media management

40

:

gig and it kind of evolved into that.

41

:

Now I kind of do a lot of like I

guess integrative stuff where I do

42

:

like brand photos and their social

media which is fun and like I do like

43

:

coaching and it's just been super fun.

44

:

So I never know how quite to explain

my business because it's just kind of

45

:

a compilation of everything that I love

to do, but that's basically the gist of

46

:

Alex: it.

47

:

Which is so cool because I think, it's,

It's awesome that you are kind of like the

48

:

whole package, you know, like, you don't

have to have somebody separate to do your

49

:

branding photos and your social media

and deciding what you want to do anyways.

50

:

So I think that's awesome.

51

:

Ally: Thank you.

52

:

It is so much fun.

53

:

Alex: And just give us a little

bit of background on like your.

54

:

your personal life too.

55

:

You don't have to go into

a lot of detail, but.

56

:

Oh, let's see.

57

:

Ally: I can talk about my business all

day, but when it comes to talking about

58

:

me, I'm like, my business is my life.

59

:

Okay.

60

:

But no, I have a sweet boy

named Lincoln and I am pregnant

61

:

with another boy right now.

62

:

So that kind of consumes my

life outside of my business.

63

:

My family is everything.

64

:

I mean, short and sweet,

but there's not much to it.

65

:

I love that.

66

:

Alex: Love that.

67

:

Thank you.

68

:

Okay, so we are going to be talking

about all things social media today.

69

:

And I wanted to just kind of

start off this discussion with

70

:

why social media gets a bad rap

end., any of your thoughts on that?

71

:

Oh,

72

:

Ally: for sure.

73

:

And I think, when I think about

this question, what it comes

74

:

down to is the fact that social

media is just so influential.

75

:

Like, it influences us so much.

76

:

Like, I can sit on the couch and

scroll through TikTok and then just

77

:

feel terrible about my life after.

78

:

Or you can,, sit and, , scroll on

Instagram and, , be uplifted and, You

79

:

really are just so impacted by like what

you choose to consume, which is so crazy.

80

:

It reminded me when I was thinking

about this question, a quote came up

81

:

to my head from Eleanor Roosevelt,

and it says, people inspire you or

82

:

they drain you, pick them wisely.

83

:

And I think that's exactly the

same message with social media.

84

:

Social media can inspire you or it

can drain you and pick you apart.

85

:

So it's up to you to choose

what you want to do with it.

86

:

Because if we aren't careful, like

a lot of people assume and have

87

:

experience, I'm sure they can easily

get addicted to social media or just

88

:

leave not feeling good about it.

89

:

And I mean, I feel like that's

what most of the society does.

90

:

That's why it has such a bad rap,

but it doesn't need to be that way.

91

:

. We can choose to look at the

inspiring stuff and to use it in

92

:

a way that is going to empower

us, which I think is really cool.

93

:

Alex: Amen.

94

:

I agree with that on such a deep

level that, it can be this awesome,

95

:

inspiring place, and that's something

that I've shared on my podcast

96

:

before, that I used to have this,

really negative view of social media.

97

:

I think, like you say, because it was

so influential to me and I felt like

98

:

it wasted so much of my time and I just

left feeling blah every time I used it.

99

:

And I kind of had this like disagreement.

100

:

, we were just dating at the time.

101

:

I'm now married to him, but my

husband , he totally disagreed.

102

:

He was like, no, social media is awesome.

103

:

Like there's so much good you can do with

it and like the connections and you can be

104

:

inspired and you can inspire other people.

105

:

And I was like, Yeah, but like,

that hasn't been my experience.

106

:

And so, now that I've learned the tools

to make sure that it is that kind of

107

:

experience and it is a positive thing, I

am like, yeah, social media is awesome.

108

:

It can be awesome.

109

:

So, I love that quote you shared.

110

:

Ally: I totally agree.

111

:

I feel like.

112

:

As a business owner, you can get so

lonely, but I've met some of, like, the

113

:

best people ever and, like, some of my

best friends on social media, and it's

114

:

just so crazy how much that those people

that you find can inspire and uplift you.

115

:

So, like you said, you just have to be

116

:

Alex: super smart about it.

117

:

Yes, it's so true.

118

:

Okay, the next thing I kind of want to

talk about is how can we create content

119

:

in a way that is fun and inspiring?

120

:

This

121

:

Ally: is a great question and basically

anyone that I find in my world on social

122

:

media has this exact same question because

as a business owner or a mom or just a

123

:

social media consumer in general, . There

is so much out there and there's so much

124

:

pressure to have to post all the time

and to do this and to do that and most

125

:

of the time that just leaves you feeling

deflated and like posting on social media

126

:

is a chore and I am totally against that.

127

:

If you've been in my world you know that

I do not believe in forcing out content

128

:

just because you feel like you need

to post something and like Honestly,

129

:

those posts don't do so well either.

130

:

Like, they come from a place

of just like, forcefulness.

131

:

Not like easiness and like fun, inspiring.

132

:

It's just like the opposite.

133

:

There's different vibes.

134

:

And your

135

:

Alex: audience can sense that.

136

:

Like, oh, exactly.

137

:

You're bored and forced.

138

:

Yeah.

139

:

So.

140

:

Ally: What I like to help my

clients do basically is find a

141

:

way of like creating content that

feels fun and inspiring for them.

142

:

And I found that this usually looks

different for every single person

143

:

because each business owner has their

own like natural talents and skills and

144

:

abilities and things that they love to do.

145

:

So when you really tap into what

you specifically love to do and

146

:

how you can use your talents and

abilities on social media, that

147

:

is where you're going to shine.

148

:

That is where your business

is going to take off.

149

:

leaps and grow so much and it

is going to be a lot more fun

150

:

for you and less draining.

151

:

So I do have a few other tips we can

talk about, but I'd say that's kind of

152

:

the first thing that came to my mind.

153

:

Alex: Yeah, that, that was so

interesting as you were talking

154

:

that just, something that I've heard

before, but it resonated on a different

155

:

level when you were talking, how.

156

:

Just be yourself, like, just be you.

157

:

I think it's so easy when you're creating

content to hide behind, like, what people

158

:

are gonna think or what you think people

want to see or what other people are

159

:

doing that are in your Same niche niche

niche niche and how they're successful

160

:

and hiding behind what you think will

do well but it actually backfires and

161

:

it's more Successful from like a vanity

metric point of view to just be yourself

162

:

and it's more fun and inspiring that

way too for you and for your audience.

163

:

Well, and I've seen that

164

:

Ally: in so many of my clients,

like one in particular at first

165

:

was just so fixated on like, okay,

I'm going to do this because this

166

:

creator did this and they went viral.

167

:

And every time she did that,

they would not go viral.

168

:

And so finally, when they got into the

habit of just like filming things that

169

:

were fun to them and like kind of showing

their own personality, that's when things

170

:

took off and , their account got so much

more traction, which I think is just a

171

:

lesson that we can all learn that people

can sense your authenticity and they

172

:

want to be able to sense the real you.

173

:

And if you aren't having fun yourself,

they're not going to have fun either.

174

:

They're not going to want

175

:

Alex: to watch you.

176

:

Yeah, they're going to go watch the other

people that, that's authentic for them.

177

:

Ally: Exactly.

178

:

Another thing that I would suggest

doing if you're looking to find a way

179

:

for you that is fun and inspiring to

create content is to just find a simple

180

:

way to fit it into your already you.

181

:

established daily routine.

182

:

Like, you can film things that aren't

just related to, like, your business.

183

:

You can film yourself playing

with your dog at the dog park.

184

:

Like, you can literally film

yourself doing anything.

185

:

Film yourself doing the

dishes, for all I care.

186

:

Like, people are interested

in seeing these random things.

187

:

So just being able to, take, I don't

know, a tripod and just document moments

188

:

of your life is not only fun for you to

look back on and be like, oh yeah, that

189

:

kind of makes my loading the dishwasher

look, like, super fun and you're, like,

190

:

romanticizing it when you look back on it,

but, like, I feel like that it can just

191

:

be An easy way to have a content bank so

that when you do have ideas You're gonna

192

:

be like, oh i'm just gonna put up this

reel with this really profound thought

193

:

I just thought of and that can make it

super fun and easy And I find that a lot

194

:

of posts like that where you're in it and

you're kind of giving a glimpse of your

195

:

own personal life are a lot of the posts

that do get a lot of traction from people.

196

:

Alex: I had a lipstick, have

you ever used one of those?

197

:

I had one last summer and like you say,

like I got it for my business so that

198

:

I could more easily just stick out in

the microwave and film me baking with

199

:

my kids or yeah, doing whatever I do.

200

:

I don't know.

201

:

I don't know.

202

:

Like, and.

203

:

I used it so that I could

make reels like that.

204

:

But it was so fun because now I have

these videos of my normal life with

205

:

my kids and yeah, these memories

with my kids, and so it is so fun.

206

:

Like you say, more than just

for the purpose of social media

207

:

to have memories of your life.

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

It's you too.

210

:

Ally: For your own life, for your own fun.

211

:

Like, I mean, I started out as a

photographer, so I have like the biggest

212

:

opinion that like photos and videos are.

213

:

My favorite thing.

214

:

I just love them so much and like I've

had just too many experiences where, I've

215

:

taken photos of like a family and then

someone has like passed away and they're

216

:

like, we're just so glad we have these

photos or I've just taken pictures of

217

:

like random memories and we've looked back

and we're like, oh, like we're just so

218

:

glad that we have these because then this

happened and it was really hard and like,

219

:

it's just crazy how like meaningful those

moments can be for your own personal life.

220

:

So I think it's like double duty.

221

:

It's like.

222

:

Killing two birds with one stone, like

journaling your life in a way, but

223

:

also being able to inspire others with

the life that you're living and like,

224

:

teaching them the skills and gifts

that you have to give them as well.

225

:

Yes,

226

:

Alex: I love that do you have any

suggestions or ideas on how to,, You

227

:

know, take photos and videos during

your daily life, but not become

228

:

so obsessed with it that it, like,

distracts you from being in the moment.

229

:

Ally: Yes, that is a good question,

because I've definitely been on both

230

:

ends of the spectrum where it does seem,

like, really obsessive, and then there's

231

:

also other times where it's just like,

oh, to my husband, like, oh, why don't

232

:

you just video me playing with Indie

right now, because it's just fun, and

233

:

then I look back at that video and I'm

like, oh, I can use this for content.

234

:

So I think you just have to go into it

with an attitude of like, okay, this is

235

:

for me and like, not just fixate on it.

236

:

I don't even know if that makes sense.

237

:

I feel like that doesn't really

answer the question I think, you

238

:

Alex: know, if you're being

too obsessed with it, you know,

239

:

like, yeah, you can sense that.

240

:

And, I think this is something

I'm still kind of navigating and

241

:

figuring out something that I have

used as a standard in the past

242

:

is like one photo and one video.

243

:

her experience.

244

:

So like sometimes I'll be on a

hike with my kids or at the park or

245

:

something like that and I just want

to like take a picture of everything

246

:

they do or like everything but just

having like nope like this one memory

247

:

was documented now we can move on

has been like a standard I can use.

248

:

And I, I

249

:

Ally: totally want to do that now.

250

:

I'm like that sounds perfect because

I can picture myself in the past where

251

:

I'm like, okay, I'm gonna film myself

like working on this canva design,

252

:

but then I feel like I have to move

my tripod at like 12 different angles.

253

:

And then it's like, wait a half hour.

254

:

And I'm like, okay, I feel like

I just wasted like my whole

255

:

afternoon trying to film that video.

256

:

And like, is anyone going to care

that I put different angles on there?

257

:

Probably not.

258

:

Like I don't want some professional,

YouTube artists, That's going to be

259

:

on a commercial, you know, so it's

just funny because I feel like we

260

:

as humans can easily I guess, fall

into that trap of being obsessive.

261

:

But I think what you said of like

setting an intention at the beginning

262

:

and be like, okay, I'm only gonna do

one video for this experience and one

263

:

picture and that's gonna be great or

even like asking those around you to

264

:

keep you accountable, being like, okay,

265

:

Alex: if you see me taking lots

of videos, tell me to calm down.

266

:

Yeah, yeah.

267

:

I can be helpful too.

268

:

Yes, I love that.

269

:

Yeah, and I think it totally

depends on your personality and the

270

:

experience, and I think, , it will

take experimenting for yourself to

271

:

see, like, what feels right for you.

272

:

Ally: Exactly, and that's what I strongly

believe in, is like, helping people

273

:

discover what feels right for them,

because what's right for me probably

274

:

won't be right for you, vice versa.

275

:

We all have.

276

:

A different lifestyle personality in

ways that our business and content

277

:

creation are going to fit into that.

278

:

Alex: I totally agree.

279

:

I think that's, that can apply

to lots of parts of life, right?

280

:

Oh, for

281

:

Ally: sure.

282

:

Alex: The next thing that I would love

to discuss is how can you create content

283

:

without getting caught up in Like, the

game, or comparing with others, or like,

284

:

being so obsessed with the algorithm.

285

:

Ally: Such a loaded question.

286

:

Yeah, sorry.

287

:

Because I know, so like, every

single person I know struggles

288

:

with this, at least on some aspect.

289

:

Me, probably a lot more than

other people, I don't know.

290

:

I've definitely learned my lessons.

291

:

Because as a business owner, right,

like, it's so easy to look at this other

292

:

business owner and be like, oh my gosh,

that, they're doing amazing, I wish I

293

:

was like that, like, I wish I had that

many views or was making that much money,

294

:

like, why am I not that successful, and

that can just be so, Detrimental to your

295

:

attitude overall like we were talking

about earlier where it's like what you

296

:

choose to focus on is what you're gonna

feel and so I've just learned personally

297

:

that I cannot compare like my day 100 to

someone's day:

298

:

what level and what lessons they've

learned in their business or in

299

:

their life that have brought them

to where they are, and they don't

300

:

know what you've gone through.

301

:

Like, you just can't look at

someone's profile and be like,

302

:

oh, well, I know they did this and

did this and they're doing this.

303

:

You, you don't know that.

304

:

That's a thing.

305

:

Most of the time it's just us in our

head telling ourselves that they have

306

:

something that we want or something.

307

:

It's like a completely

made up perceived notion.

308

:

And I'm completely guilty of this.

309

:

So when I get in a trap like that,

I just have to really pull back

310

:

and just be like, okay, well.

311

:

Am I giving my 100 percent?

312

:

Like, how do I feel like

I'm doing my business?

313

:

Is there more I could do?

314

:

Like, and if there is, then sure,

maybe I'll focus my energy on that.

315

:

And if I genuinely am doing my best and

I'll just be like, okay, I have given

316

:

the universe, I've given God everything

I can, and there's no reason that I'm

317

:

not going to succeed because of that.

318

:

Does that make sense?

319

:

Yes.

320

:

Alex: Yes.

321

:

And.

322

:

That's interesting, like what you say

about, just getting caught up in what we

323

:

see, you know, I think there's so much

like click bait stuff of like, girl,

324

:

this many followers in this many days or

make this much money in this many days.

325

:

And just like, makes it seem like

it's like overnight success and so

326

:

easy like it's completely normal.

327

:

Yeah.

328

:

Yeah, exactly.

329

:

Exactly.

330

:

And like the other thing I

feel like on my journey of.

331

:

Learning this well, one thing that's

really fascinating, there's something

332

:

called cultivation theory, which is

where it's this idea where basically

333

:

like the more time you spend on

social media, the more likely you

334

:

are to believe that that's real life.

335

:

Even if you logically know that

it's not true, you're subconscious.

336

:

How does that work?

337

:

is not strong enough.

338

:

I'm like getting these all mixed up.

339

:

Basically, I know what

you're trying to say.

340

:

Yeah.

341

:

It's like you, your subconscious isn't

strong enough to overcome that logical

342

:

knowledge to believe that it's not true.

343

:

I think I got those right, but that

might have been mixed up, okay.

344

:

. Anyways, that cultivation theory

is like a fascinating thing.

345

:

And then I think the other thing is like,

it's so easy to get caught up in , Oh,

346

:

I want a lot of followers or I want

to make such and such amount of money.

347

:

And then I'm, take a step back.

348

:

And I'm like, that's not even

what I want in my business.

349

:

I think it's just like

350

:

Ally: glamorized that

you're like, yeah, you makes

351

:

Alex: me, you think that you want that.

352

:

And you're like, I

actually don't want that.

353

:

Like I'm really happy with

where my business is right now.

354

:

And I want to expand it and grow

it in ways, but not in those ways.

355

:

Like.

356

:

I don't know.

357

:

I think just remembering why you're

even doing what you're doing,

358

:

like the purpose of your business.

359

:

Oh,

360

:

Ally: exactly.

361

:

And just being grateful for

what you have too, I feel like

362

:

makes a big difference too.

363

:

Like when you're actually focusing

on like, wow, I have like 500

364

:

people who me and are like, actually

invested in what I have to say.

365

:

Like, how amazing is that?

366

:

Yes.

367

:

A room filled up like 500 people.

368

:

That's a lot.

369

:

That is so much.

370

:

Yes.

371

:

I feel like the perspective and

like choosing to be grateful is

372

:

also a big thing too that can be so

hard to focus on when you're in, in

373

:

that negative comparison headspace.

374

:

Alex: Yes.

375

:

I think I used to think like, Oh, once

I have like 10, 000 followers, then

376

:

I'll be a successful business owner.

377

:

Or then I'll know that people

like what I have to offer.

378

:

But like you say, it's like.

379

:

That's just a random threshold.

380

:

And it's like, even if I help one person,

like, I care about that one person.

381

:

And yeah, for me, it's, it's

not about the followers.

382

:

,

Ally: I totally agree.

383

:

Okay.

384

:

Alex: A lot of people that I talk

with, whether that's friends who are

385

:

business owners or some of my clients

are also business owners and they,

386

:

they get stuck on content ideas.

387

:

I feel like this is kind of like

two, two sides of the same coin.

388

:

Either they get stuck on coming

up with content ideas or they have

389

:

like so many content ideas but

they don't know how to like Put

390

:

it into actually creating content.

391

:

What advice would you give them?

392

:

Ally: But the first thing that

comes to mind is slow down.

393

:

Like you gotta take it easy on

either side of the spectrum.

394

:

And that could mean like taking a break

from social media or posting in general.

395

:

And it can mean take time

to like just literally sit.

396

:

And just sit in your thoughts

and just think okay, what's

397

:

most important to me right now?

398

:

How can I best serve those

in my audience right now?

399

:

And really just tune in to what

you as a person have to offer.

400

:

I feel like can be the biggest

thing in helping you when you're in

401

:

a rut of like, Oh, I have so many

things that I don't know what to do.

402

:

I don't know where to get started,

or I just don't even know what

403

:

to do because I have nothing.

404

:

I know that can help in both situations.

405

:

Yeah, it sounds so like counterintuitive

because I'm like, slow down.

406

:

Like, well, why, why do that?

407

:

Like, I have the hardest time slowing

down because my brain goes a million

408

:

miles per hour all the time, but I.

409

:

And like the second person where I

have a million ideas and then none of

410

:

it gets done because I, it's all just

there and then I'm like too overwhelmed.

411

:

So what I found helped me is every

morning when I'm going to post for

412

:

myself or like, work on my own business.

413

:

I will just start with a prayer, and

I will just sit down and write in my

414

:

journal, like, whatever comes to mind.

415

:

Like, I will ask God, okay, what

do I need to tell people today?

416

:

Then I'm just gonna go with that, whatever

my heart tells me, and I just try not to

417

:

overthink it and trust that, I'm being

led in a direction that is going to

418

:

help someone because ultimately that's

the goal of like what I want to do and

419

:

I'm sure if you're listening to this,

I'm sure that's what your goal is too.

420

:

So I'd say that's my

biggest piece of advice.

421

:

Other things you could do.

422

:

Is if you're feeling stuck like in

a rut and you really just don't know

423

:

what to post, I always recommend to

people going back to all of your older

424

:

posts, seeing what performed well,

and maybe you're purposing like an

425

:

old carousel and turn it into like

a real format, which could be fun.

426

:

Or if there's a post that didn't do well,

but you love the topic on revamp it, take

427

:

it to a new level, try some new things.

428

:

And that can be really fun to

get the creative juices flowing.

429

:

So that's just something else

that I would recommend doing.

430

:

Oh, I

431

:

Alex: love those so much.

432

:

A little Vouch for Allie.

433

:

I don't know if you still do these,

but I had like a content strategy call.

434

:

I don't know what you call them, but Kind

of like a little coaching call with Allie

435

:

where I was feeling exactly what you

described Just like stuck and bored of

436

:

my content and it was so helpful because

she helped me Yeah, take a step back.

437

:

You probably helped me slow down and

, Basically, I think you helped me not

438

:

be so worked up about the strategy.

439

:

I think this was my takeaway

and just be more focused.

440

:

Yeah.

441

:

Like you said on like, what do I want to

share and what does God want me to share?

442

:

And it's interesting because

that has led me to this week.

443

:

I had a little nudge to take a

break totally off social media

444

:

and I've been doing what you said.

445

:

Like.

446

:

In that time, I would have been posting on

my stories or posting my posts or reels.

447

:

I've just been journaling and I have had

so many very clear content ideas come.

448

:

And it's been so fun because I haven't

seen anything else to compare it to.

449

:

It's been just like my

thoughts and my words.

450

:

Yeah!

451

:

I love it so much.

452

:

So, I totally agree with you.

453

:

And if you are still offering those,

everybody run and go chat with Allie

454

:

Ally: because I'll probably

offer another round here in mid

455

:

March, so, you know, you too.

456

:

Okay, so

457

:

Alex: follow Allie and

watch out for those.

458

:

Yeah, that was super helpful.

459

:

Anything else on content ideas?

460

:

Ally: Another thing that came to mind

when you need content ideas is going

461

:

and getting inspiration from other

creators, but, with a disclaimer,

462

:

That you need to give credit when

due, and you should make it your own.

463

:

, personally, like, if I'm really feeling

stuck, maybe I'll go on Pinterest

464

:

or TikTok and just search, like, a

certain, like, phrase, and just kind

465

:

of watch some different videos of what

other people's ideas are, and usually

466

:

that gets my own wheels spinning.

467

:

And I won't post the exact same thing

they did, but maybe I'll think a thought

468

:

that I was like, Oh, well, I don't

agree with that, but I agree with this,

469

:

and I want to talk about this now.

470

:

Like it'll, it'll plant seeds of like

ideas of things that maybe I have a

471

:

different perspective on or I mean

a similar perspective, but like my

472

:

own take on it that I can share with

people and hopefully teach them.

473

:

So I mean, obviously be careful when

doing that, but I do think that there

474

:

is nothing wrong with leaning on other

business owners to learn more and get

475

:

inspiration as long as you can, like

I said, make it your own experience.

476

:

Alex: I totally agree with that, and I

have an episode, I can't remember what

477

:

it's called, I think I call it like,

Be a Creator More Than a Consumer,

478

:

which is a really popular idea that I

think most people have heard of, but

479

:

something that I talk about in that

episode is how I don't think being a

480

:

creator more than a consumer is just

like Creating more than you consume.

481

:

I think it's consuming because we

all are going to consume in one

482

:

way or the other and then creating

something out of what you consume.

483

:

Like whether that's, yeah, different

content or I mean, that's how

484

:

Ally: trends work, right?

485

:

Like someone does a trend and

then it explodes and everyone

486

:

does their own take on it.

487

:

Like, yes, that's always fun to do too.

488

:

Like there's nothing wrong with

489

:

Alex: that.

490

:

Have you heard of that book?

491

:

I don't know.

492

:

What's it called?

493

:

Steel Like an Artist by Austin Kleon, he

talks about how like no idea is original.,

494

:

there's nothing that's original.

495

:

And so it's just taking ideas and building

on them and creating your own out of them.

496

:

Oh,

497

:

Ally: exactly.

498

:

I love that.

499

:

Alex: Okay.

500

:

So kind of on this like.

501

:

Similar idea.

502

:

Do you have any tips for how to be

consistent in, you know, creating

503

:

content while also being flexible and

not so robotic in the creation process?

504

:

Ally: I also think that this is one of

the things that you have to adopt to your

505

:

own lifestyle and your own personality

because I have found what works for me

506

:

does not work for a lot of my clients and

vice versa, but I will say I'll give an

507

:

example of like my experience doing this.

508

:

Basically what I have I guess decided

works for me is not planning out a

509

:

bunch because I want to be able to,

to tune into my heart and to be able

510

:

to be flexible on what I want to post.

511

:

I mean, outside of like certain things,

like maybe you're launching an offer and

512

:

like you can plan that ahead, that's fine.

513

:

Work that into your system.

514

:

But , for the most part, I just don't put

pressure on myself to post all the time.

515

:

Like I genuinely try to post when I feel.

516

:

Aspired to and when I want to,

because that is when I feel

517

:

like it impacts more lives.

518

:

Mm-Hmm.

519

:

So take what you love, drop what you don't

520

:

But I, I just believe that taking

the pressure off of ourselves to

521

:

have to post every single day.

522

:

Will change your life and it will help

you not be robotic because that's when

523

:

like I kind of mentioned earlier your

content gets forced and boring and not

524

:

fun and it's more of like a chore to

do so I really just believe that like

525

:

I mean, it is hard too because as a

business owner, sometimes you need to post

526

:

because this is your livelihood, right?

527

:

Like this is how you make

money and how you sell things.

528

:

So in the moments where like, you

know, you need to do something

529

:

and you don't want to, I'll just

say, okay, well, what's the bare

530

:

, minimum I need to do today to post?

531

:

Like, is it just like a story like

slide to remind people that I'm still

532

:

open for business and that I'm here?

533

:

And for that day, I'll just

say, yep, that's enough.

534

:

That's my 100 percent for the day.

535

:

Like, that's good.

536

:

Maybe tomorrow I'll have

more to give and that's okay.

537

:

So for me, I guess it's a very adaptable,

, flexible process and that's what I love.

538

:

I know that it's not for everyone, but

chances are, if you're listening to

539

:

this, you might, you might just relate.

540

:

Alex: Yes.

541

:

I think I've totally like when I first

started, I actually started that way of

542

:

just like posting whatever I wanted to.

543

:

And then I was like, no, I'm ready

to get more serious about this.

544

:

And so then I was much more like

strict, but then it got into like the

545

:

forced and just yeah, bored of it.

546

:

And so then I swung back into like,

whatever I want, whenever I want.

547

:

And now I feel like I'm kind of trying to

find that like sweet spot, middle ground.

548

:

Yeah.

549

:

Ally: And that's hard.

550

:

It takes a

551

:

Alex: lot of trial and error.

552

:

Yeah, and I think it will

probably continue to sway

553

:

depending on my season of life.

554

:

You know, I think we're never

going to be, yeah, like, okay,

555

:

this is what I'm gonna do forever.

556

:

It's like, this is what's

working for me right now.

557

:

And that may change in the next

little bit, you know, like,

558

:

Ally: I don't think consistency

is something that we can like.

559

:

Glue ourselves to or like try to do

always because it's going to change.

560

:

You've got to be flexible.

561

:

Your consistency in your season of

life is like a brand new mom versus

562

:

like maybe before you had kids.

563

:

Like, it's going to be different.

564

:

Yeah.

565

:

Yes, exactly.

566

:

You're going to have different

time and energy to give.

567

:

So it's just really giving yourself

grace and being able to put in the

568

:

work that you need to each day or

that you want to, to meet your goals.

569

:

Alex: Totally.

570

:

I do think, like, so what I've been

doing lately is Thursday afternoons

571

:

so we have a babysitter come and

that's like my content creation day.

572

:

And so I think I used to like, get so

excited about creating content that I

573

:

just wanted to like post it right then.

574

:

But something that's been helpful is like,

I only do it in my journal right now, like

575

:

a paper and pen, like phone away, computer

away, so that I'm not like, oh, let me

576

:

just like look at what this other, I

don't know, I get too caught up into like,

577

:

trying to copy or please my audience.

578

:

So it's been really good to just

have like a pen and paper and

579

:

that's where I have like all my

content with like exactly what.

580

:

Words I want to come up in the reel

or exactly what I say in the reel or

581

:

exactly the carousels I want to make

so that when I'm not feeling like

582

:

creating content, I have stuff to pull

from right there because it's already

583

:

created because like, I know Thursday

afternoons are like a quiet, I'm

584

:

generally in a good place at that time.

585

:

Ally: I love that.

586

:

And I, I would totally

recommend that people do that.

587

:

Like I have, I call it my content bank,

where I write down my little thoughts

588

:

and just, that's where I keep everything.

589

:

And like, I am like you, I

don't always feel like that.

590

:

I want to sit there and whip out a

reel,, or think about content ideas.

591

:

But if I need ideas, I go back to

my content bank and I'm like, Okay.

592

:

Yeah.

593

:

This feels good.

594

:

We can do this.

595

:

Yes.

596

:

It can be an easy way to

like, I guess just doing that.

597

:

Like I said, it goes back to implementing

it into like your own lifestyle

598

:

and finding what works for you.

599

:

Right.

600

:

Cause you have like your Thursdays where

you set aside time to go in and record

601

:

things and make sure things get done.

602

:

And I love that because that works

for you and like your season of

603

:

life and everyone can choose what

that looks like for themselves.

604

:

Yes.

605

:

Yes.

606

:

Alex: Yes.

607

:

Yeah, exactly.

608

:

Totally agree.

609

:

, is there anything else that

you want to touch on today?

610

:

I mean,

611

:

Ally: overall, I just wanted to let anyone

listening to this know that , you have

612

:

so much power to do good in this world.

613

:

And that the power of social

media is truly endless.

614

:

And when it's in the hands of

people like you, that are choosing

615

:

to make a difference and serve

others, like, you truly are

616

:

making a difference in this world.

617

:

And I just want you to know how much

that means to me as, like, a creator.

618

:

Keep it up.

619

:

It just makes me super happy that there

are people like You and me out there who

620

:

are really striving to do good and to be

a good influence on the world around us

621

:

because it can be a scary and dark place.

622

:

So I just wanted to add that because I

feel like people are listening to this.

623

:

They need to know that they

are doing a great job and they

624

:

have so much good to offer.

625

:

Alex: Well, this is going to make

me emotional just thinking about

626

:

it because that's really like why.

627

:

I felt so pressed to start mindful with

media because it's exactly like you're

628

:

saying, yeah, like we were talking

about the beginning, social media does

629

:

get a bad rap, but we can change that.

630

:

Like we, we can create good on

there and we can, put good content

631

:

out there that inspires people and

makes people feel loved and valued

632

:

Ally: and And build a community of like

people that are like in the same phase

633

:

of life as you that like have the same

beliefs as you that you can actually

634

:

be friends with and like impact their

lives and I just think that is so

635

:

freaking amazing that we can do that.

636

:

Alex: Yes, I wholeheartedly agree.

637

:

That was so beautifully said and I'm

grateful for you that you're figuring

638

:

out social media so you can Teach

and help the rest of us do it in a

639

:

way that feels aligned and feels good

and doesn't feel, pressured and like

640

:

racing to the top that just feels

like doing it for the right reasons.

641

:

For sure.

642

:

Will you , let my listeners

know where they can find you

643

:

and how they can work with you?

644

:

Ally: Absolutely.

645

:

My Instagram is at heyallyglover,

ally is spelled A L L Y.

646

:

I still get that misspelled

to this day and that's okay.

647

:

But I basically like I mentioned, I

offer a variety of custom social media

648

:

management services, and more recently,

a lot of, like, mindset coaching

649

:

and strategy coaching for creators

and business owners, which I love.

650

:

I'm completely obsessed with it.

651

:

I also just wanted to plug in

my new offer that's going to

652

:

be launching here in a month.

653

:

I haven't even talked to anyone

about it, so you guys are getting it.

654

:

Alex: Little tea on this, but it is a

655

:

Ally: new program and it's called

Create with Ease and it's going to be a

656

:

three month group coaching course with

also personal one on one calls with

657

:

me where we're going to work together

to uncover like how to simplify your

658

:

own social media strategy and make it

work for your own lifestyle business.

659

:

So, okay, so basically

660

:

Alex: this was just like a little

taste of what We'll get with you.

661

:

Lots of good things to come.

About the Podcast

Mindful with Media
This is the podcast for entrepreneurial moms who want to grow a meaningful, profitable business without sacrificing their other priorities (like spending time with their kids or getting enough sleep).

Host Alex Fales—business coach, mindset mentor, and mom—shares honest conversations, simple strategies, and powerful mindset shifts to help you and make money doing work you love and grow as a person while you're at it.

Expect solo episodes, authentic chats, and real-life stories that help you blend business strategy with personal growth, so you can build a business that supports your life (not the other way around).

Because you don’t need more hustle.
You need clarity, confidence, and the courage to do business your way.
