Transcript
Speaker:

I've coached nearly 100 women about their

screen time, and here's what I've learned.

2

:

Women actually don't care about their

screen time, they care about those things

3

:

that are impacted by their screen time.

4

:

Their ability to be patient with their

kids, the growth of their business,

5

:

having time to pursue their creative

dreams, their relationship with their

6

:

husband, the inner peace that they feel,

their confidence in themselves, their

7

:

Connection with God, their friendships

not missing out on their kids' childhoods.

8

:

I'm Alex and I'm here to

help you find inner peace.

9

:

Enjoy true fulfillment

and be fully present.

10

:

Welcome to the Mindful with Media Podcast.

11

:

Hey Natalie, how are you?

12

:

Hey!

13

:

Hi Alex, great!

14

:

Good!

15

:

It's so fun, I know I've like followed

you on Instagram for a while, so

16

:

it's fun to like actually meet you

in person, well in person, virtually.

17

:

I think more for me than for you probably,

you've actually been more consistent, like

18

:

probably six months or something crazy.

19

:

It's so funny how like, I'll,

talk to people that, I know in

20

:

real life and they're like, oh

yeah, I saw that on Instagram.

21

:

And it's like kind of this weird thing

where . People like know things about me

22

:

that I forget that they know about me.

23

:

Yes.

24

:

Yeah.

25

:

I understand that feeling.

26

:

Right.

27

:

Okay.

28

:

So what would make this a

powerful call for you today?

29

:

I, I was really just seeing this as like

a good opportunity to give myself a kick

30

:

in the pants and like, start posting

again, but also I would, I would just,

31

:

there's one post in particular of yours.

32

:

Just like what we were talking about.

33

:

And I think you shared your method for,

um, batching content with a notebook

34

:

instead of being on the computer.

35

:

And then I was just interested in

learning more about that whole process.

36

:

And if you, like, schedule your posts or,

like, what Do you use templates on Canva,

37

:

or like what's, what are some strategies I

would love to learn from you, kind of how

38

:

to do that so that it's just less work?

39

:

Yes, yeah, that has been a game changer

for me to, because I feel like I've

40

:

tried lots of different things, and some

things work and some things don't, but

41

:

this has been a game changer, like you

said, to like, Computer away, phone away.

42

:

And I used to like having those out.

43

:

Cause that's where all my notes are,

you know, that's where I can pull from

44

:

things I've posted in the past or hook

ideas or like trending audios, you know,

45

:

it's like, there's lots of good ideas

on there, but I found that it was like

46

:

impacting me more negatively than it was.

47

:

Positively.

48

:

Like Yeah.

49

:

Wasting so much time trying

to make the perfect thing.

50

:

So yeah, I love, I'll tell you

my process and then we'll get

51

:

into like what works for you.

52

:

Cool.

53

:

So I once a week, yeah.

54

:

Put my computer away, put my

phone away, and I just kind of.

55

:

Write down my goals for that week.

56

:

So like, if I'm like launching something

or if I'm prepping to launch something,

57

:

or if I'm really wanting to focus on

community or like providing value and

58

:

teaching people so that they know,

like, why I'm, A good resource for like

59

:

why they should hire me in the future.

60

:

I kind of just like jot down thoughts

of like, what, what do I feel

61

:

like I want to focus on this week?

62

:

And I don't have any sort of, I mean,

like some things, things impact that,

63

:

but I don't have any sort of like, and

then this week I'm going to do this.

64

:

And then this week I'm going to do this.

65

:

It's really just like week by week

is what's worked for me personally.

66

:

Cool.

67

:

So I'll have that just

kind of in mind and then.

68

:

I'll just brainstorm a bunch of ideas of

like, I mean, I can even pull up mine from

69

:

this last week of just like transitions

and let's get the hell in here.

70

:

I'm like, I don't know where this is.

71

:

Oh yeah, like why you seek external

validation or like creating content

72

:

is like building a muscle or

breaking down tasks or I just like

73

:

kind of like brain dump a bunch

of like potential content ideas.

74

:

Yeah.

75

:

Because I just always have

things coming to mind.

76

:

Right.

77

:

And then, I'll just do like one post

at a time, and I'll literally write

78

:

out like, the, the, like each carousel,

or if it's a reel, like each line of

79

:

like, what text I'll have on that, and

I'll write out the whole caption in my

80

:

notebook, and I'll look at my list, decide

what I want to do for the next one, and

81

:

I'll just spend like one to two hours.

82

:

We have a babysitter come every Thursday,

and so I just do it while she's So, Here

83

:

and then when she goes home, then I'm done

and then as far as like creating it during

84

:

the week, then I I do have like templates

that I use in Canva that I pull from.

85

:

Yeah, like I kind of have like

my same carousels that I use.

86

:

And then I have my like reels.

87

:

I'll either just like do text

over video, random videos I

88

:

have, or I'll like film a video.

89

:

But, I'm gonna, I'm just gonna

look at your thing real quick.

90

:

Yeah.

91

:

I'm trying to imagine.

92

:

So, just out of curiosity, writing

in a notebook do you find that it's

93

:

hard to kind of not be erasing all the

time, like, you know, use a pen, and

94

:

that's also part of it is like, I found

myself just rethinking and overthinking

95

:

everything I was going to say of

like, yeah, I should do it this way.

96

:

Like, every once in a while, I'll like,

cross things out and write it over

97

:

again or every once in a while I'll

like when I actually go to post I'm

98

:

like oh that wording doesn't really make

sense and and this is probably harder

99

:

for you than for me because you're a

copywriter so like there's a little bit

100

:

of pressure I don't yeah but also like

I literally Every single time I content

101

:

plan and every time I post, I remind

myself, done is better than perfect.

102

:

Done is better than perfect.

103

:

Yeah, that's a big one for me too.

104

:

Do you just love, I don't know if you

can see it, but do you love this format

105

:

where you just like send like a Twitter?

106

:

Yes, yes.

107

:

I need to start doing

that because it's so easy.

108

:

It is awesome.

109

:

Yeah, and then people can see you.

110

:

Yeah.

111

:

And I love to read them.

112

:

I love consuming them, so.

113

:

Right.

114

:

And they're just like so much less work.

115

:

I've never done them for myself.

116

:

I've always spent so much time

making things for you guys.

117

:

And yours are beautiful, like.

118

:

Well, thank you, but it's

like, was it worth it?

119

:

I don't know.

120

:

Yeah, yeah.

121

:

It's a stupid amount of time.

122

:

And then after you post, it's

almost like I spend, I don't know.

123

:

I spend more time on Instagram right after

I've posted something than any other time.

124

:

And that is such a bummer because

it's like I already did all that

125

:

work and I should be able to

just like post it and be done.

126

:

But then I'm like, I, I've almost,

I can almost predict now, like after

127

:

I post something, I'm going to be in

for like a couple of days of really

128

:

heavy social media use, you know?

129

:

Okay.

130

:

So that's like an issue.

131

:

Why do you think that is?

132

:

I'm sure it's the, the dopamine hit.

133

:

It's looking for the likes is what it is.

134

:

I'm sure.

135

:

Yeah.

136

:

So yeah, I don't know.

137

:

So do you think, like, you're

more hesitant about, like,

138

:

the content creation process?

139

:

Or more hesitant about not wanting to

get sucked into social media again?

140

:

Well, it's like they both suck me in.

141

:

One is, like, the perfectionism

of creating the posts.

142

:

Is it's own little vortex, and

then the aftermath of posting

143

:

is it's own little vortex.

144

:

And it's just like a lot of

wasted time associated with

145

:

getting this one little idea out.

146

:

And I think, now that I'm, now that

I've been doing this for a little while,

147

:

and I've also taken like a solid break

from Instagram and I'm coming back to

148

:

it, I think that doing things more like

the little Twitter post thing is going

149

:

to be easier now because I think I was

just dealing with a lot of like really

150

:

feeling like I needed to prove myself.

151

:

And maybe your other clients

have that too, at least your,

152

:

your small business clients.

153

:

Like you feel like everything

has to look so good.

154

:

Yeah.

155

:

But I don't know, maybe just the time.

156

:

No, that is, you are 100

percent not alone in that.

157

:

Like, sometimes people are aware

that's going, are aware that that's

158

:

going on, and sometimes they're not.

159

:

But I have yet to work with

somebody who has not been

160

:

experiencing that exact same thing.

161

:

Yeah, I'm hoping it won't

come back with a vengeance.

162

:

I don't think it's going to.

163

:

I think I'm hopefully matured out of it.

164

:

I'm excited to try.

165

:

Oh, sorry.

166

:

What?

167

:

What's your?

168

:

Oh, sorry.

169

:

No, you're good.

170

:

Okay.

171

:

What's your ideal Situation like

with getting back on social media.

172

:

Well what I've discovered is that

My work comes from a lot of other

173

:

sources besides social media and I

have like some consistent clients now

174

:

You I don't know if that's the same

for you or for other business owners,

175

:

but I find that what I actually have

to do on Instagram is very little.

176

:

I just need to be posting enough

so that visitors can see that it's.

177

:

This is current like it's

been an active account.

178

:

Yeah.

179

:

Yeah, really that's kind of it So

and I have lots of like I have Canva

180

:

templates and I have things that should

make it easy So really not very much,

181

:

but I think to be consistent would

be good Just have a time when I'm

182

:

posting so that at any given moment.

183

:

I never feel stressed about Instagram

because I'm like, oh no, I post like every

184

:

other Thursday And that's my plan, and I'm

doing my plan, and I'm winning at that.

185

:

Yeah, yeah.

186

:

So, that's what I want.

187

:

So, I want to dive into

that just a little bit more.

188

:

I think this can be really helpful.

189

:

Kind of like you're saying, sometimes

we like, post just to post, and it's

190

:

like, I don't even need to be on here.

191

:

Like, what's my point on here?

192

:

So, I'd love to like, dive in a

little bit more of Why you want

193

:

to be on Instagram and maybe

you're gonna step back from that.

194

:

Like what are your goals

and dreams in your business?

195

:

Okay, Let's see.

196

:

Well, you know, I did actually get one

of my biggest clients just from organic

197

:

Instagram Which was a kind of a miracle.

198

:

I don't know Yeah, like I I don't want

to put it down completely I don't want

199

:

to disregard it completely because

I'm like no like You Fun things happen

200

:

on Instagram sometimes, if, you know.

201

:

And it was during a time when I

was posting quite consistently.

202

:

So like, I can't, obviously

can't throw it out.

203

:

Um, and then you asked me

about dreams with the business.

204

:

Well, it's interesting

because I'm, I am a mom.

205

:

I have a toddler.

206

:

And I, he goes to daycare three days

a week and what I can get done during

207

:

those times is what I can get done.

208

:

And like the nature of my work

is such that like each project

209

:

is quite time intensive.

210

:

They're usually like big blog

posts or like landing pages and

211

:

things that take quite a lot of

research and like the, the ratio of.

212

:

I don't know.

213

:

Projects, the time it

takes is quite spread out.

214

:

Yeah.

215

:

So it's like, I almost have to be careful.

216

:

I'm almost kind of worried about

posting too much on Instagram

217

:

because I am afraid of saying no.

218

:

And I'm afraid of like, if I,

if I have too much work, then

219

:

I won't be able to do it all.

220

:

But I probably will have a

really hard time saying no.

221

:

And then that will make my life stressful.

222

:

So it's an interesting balance.

223

:

For sure.

224

:

So you feel, you feel like

right now your business, is that

225

:

like where you want it to be?

226

:

Like you, you don't really

want to grow right now?

227

:

Kind of.

228

:

I don't really know how I would.

229

:

I just, I don't really have time.

230

:

Like I have consistent clients

that are bigger companies and they

231

:

just have consistent projects.

232

:

And so, but I do, yeah.

233

:

Back to your question,

like why, why Instagram?

234

:

I think it is just to be, it's just like

an extension of my LinkedIn, I guess.

235

:

Which I don't update either.

236

:

I should probably pair those.

237

:

I should probably be posting

on LinkedIn and then turning my

238

:

LinkedIn posts into Instagram posts.

239

:

I know I should do that.

240

:

But yeah, I guess it's just

like Let's pause there.

241

:

You said, I know I should do that.

242

:

Why?

243

:

Like, why do you feel

like you should do that?

244

:

Because I feel like that's The easy,

like everyone, that's the, that's

245

:

the easy thing, like, not to, are you

asking like why I should bunch them

246

:

or why I should be on LinkedIn at all?

247

:

No, no, no, why you should, why

you want to be on there, yeah.

248

:

I just, I feel like the, the clients

that I want that have marketing

249

:

budgets are usually like hanging out

on LinkedIn rather than on Instagram.

250

:

Instagram is more just like, I don't

know, here's the fun side of me.

251

:

Yeah.

252

:

I don't know.

253

:

No, totally.

254

:

Totally.

255

:

Yeah, so but I do have thoughts like

I have things I have things come to

256

:

my mind that I feel like oh This would

be so helpful for someone who is doing

257

:

it on their own and okay I don't know.

258

:

I feel like we're probably yeah

coming around to the fact that like

259

:

maybe I don't I just don't need to

be But I don't know that's hard.

260

:

It's hard to think that I think

that's kind of like two two things

261

:

that are coming to my mind It's

like one Is Instagram fun for you?

262

:

And like, if it is, or if it can

be, how can we make this just like

263

:

a totally fun thing that is zero,

like pressure have to post thing.

264

:

We'll go there and then I'll

say the other thing and we can

265

:

decide which way you want to go.

266

:

My other question is like, do you

want to figure out ways to scale your

267

:

business without more workload for you?

268

:

Like, is that thought exciting for you?

269

:

Yes.

270

:

Yes.

271

:

Yeah, well, yeah, yes.

272

:

So let's, I like both of those things.

273

:

Let's talk about them both.

274

:

Okay, let's do it.

275

:

Okay, so which one, I'm kind of

thinking we go scale your business

276

:

first because I think that will

impact how you use Instagram, right?

277

:

Okay, yeah, I am excited by that.

278

:

It does scare the heck out of me.

279

:

Okay, what fears are coming up?

280

:

I don't know.

281

:

I'm just very Pretty sure I have ADHD.

282

:

I get hyper focused and when I start

talking about like, scaling or like,

283

:

doing anything big, you know, I get

so into it and it's just so hard for

284

:

me to be present with like, other

really important things in my life.

285

:

Like my son and husband and

my You know, eating food.

286

:

Yeah.

287

:

ADHD problems.

288

:

But yeah, so I would, but what you

said was, would you like to scale

289

:

your business without working harder?

290

:

And like, I do think I could do that.

291

:

I just need to figure out

how, but what would you say?

292

:

Yeah.

293

:

Well, one, I just want to acknowledge,

like you said, like ADHD of like super

294

:

focusing on something and then like,

Having a hard time going other like

295

:

focusing or being present for other

things that are really important to you

296

:

I think that's a gift in a lot of ways,

you know, I think I agree Recognize

297

:

like yeah, that's too excited To where

you are today in a lot of ways And

298

:

so just I don't know recognizing the

good that comes from that too and we

299

:

can talk about ways to Manage that in

a healthy way so it doesn't consume

300

:

those other things that probably matter

more to you than scaling your business.

301

:

Okay, you said you like started

to have some ideas of like

302

:

how to scale your business.

303

:

Well, two things.

304

:

One, tell me like what your business

looks like right now and then like

305

:

just any ideas that are coming

to mind of like how to scale.

306

:

Well, I offer I'm probably committing a

business no no by offering such a wide

307

:

range of Offerings I do blog posts.

308

:

I do landing pages.

309

:

I do email sequences And just like

regular website copy and I have a

310

:

pretty good spread of like all of those

things, but it's kind of interesting

311

:

the I don't know if you're interested

in learning about how much different

312

:

copywriting jobs are worth But the no

tell me I think this is fascinating.

313

:

Yeah, so like landing pages and

website copy even though they are

314

:

less words I don't know what another

copywriter would say, but I charge

315

:

more for those because they require

more research and more time to actually

316

:

boil things down to less words.

317

:

So it's kind of counterintuitive.

318

:

But they, but once you get good at

them, and I feel like I'm, I'm grown a

319

:

lot in my ability to do those quickly.

320

:

It's, it's really a kind of a great,

it's a great thing for my career if I

321

:

can get more clients who want landing

pages because I've gotten to the point

322

:

where I've developed that skill and so

now my time is more valuable and I don't

323

:

necessarily want to use my time writing

a long blog post because like, blog posts

324

:

take a long time, like no matter how good

of a copywriter, you know what I mean?

325

:

Like, it's just, it's just

a lot of words, you know?

326

:

And I try not to use Chad GPT too

much, you know, and I, because I feel

327

:

like that, yeah, he values what I do.

328

:

And so so yeah, I think one of my

ideas is like, how can I attract more

329

:

People who want landing pages and

web copy because those things are

330

:

they're more permanent and they do

They do produce like more clicks and

331

:

conversions than like blogs, for example.

332

:

Yeah So maybe like when I start

thinking about okay, how do I how am

333

:

I gonna restart my social media game?

334

:

I need to start thinking more

about that and yeah, I guess I'm

335

:

just coming out of this time.

336

:

Oh, sorry.

337

:

I'm just coming out of this time where

I used to be like, I will offer, I

338

:

will do anything for you that you're

willing to pay for, you know, like I

339

:

will not say no, but now it's getting

to the point where like, okay, my time

340

:

Is literally like for me two hours to

whip out a blog post is not worth the

341

:

150 that I charge for a blog post.

342

:

My time is worth, you know, like

today I did some, I did one project

343

:

that I'm going to charge 500 for, you

know, and so like logically I need to

344

:

figure out how to do more of those.

345

:

Yeah.

346

:

Less.

347

:

Yeah.

348

:

Do more of your, your high

ticket offers kind of thing.

349

:

Yeah.

350

:

Yeah.

351

:

It's just a matter of like, Do

I believe in myself now that I,

352

:

that my, as a knowledge worker,

that my knowledge is worth?

353

:

The higher price and I feel like now I

do it's really been a long time since

354

:

I've talked about using social media

and doing my own marketing ironically

355

:

enough, but yeah, I think I've changed a

lot since the last time I was deep in it.

356

:

That's kind of cool to show

up as a new Natalie and like.

357

:

Not just for your sake, how cool that is,

but how cool that is for people who are

358

:

looking for somebody like you, you know?

359

:

People who want to pay you money to

do a really good job on their landing

360

:

page or, you know, their website copy.

361

:

Well now I feel like I can say with all

honesty, I mean, it's not like, it's

362

:

not just, Empty marketing, when I say,

listen, I know it's hard and I know that

363

:

you don't have the time to get good at it.

364

:

So like, let me do it because

I have put in the time.

365

:

Yes, you, you've put in the time

so now they can pay you to do it.

366

:

Yeah.

367

:

So as far as like, like offering

that, would you have to like say

368

:

no to any other things right now?

369

:

As far as like, I don't know, things

you're already doing or offers

370

:

you have to like start offering

that to people on Instagram?

371

:

Or.

372

:

Maybe I might have to, I

write a lot of blog posts.

373

:

And you don't want to

be doing that anymore.

374

:

I mean they were convenient for a

while because Blog posts are usually

375

:

a recurring service Once someone finds

you and they like you they don't really

376

:

want to let you go and that just means

you get to write blog Posts for them

377

:

every month and which is a great source

of consistent income, but yeah, they're

378

:

time intensive and so It's like, mm.

379

:

And, and they're not as high of

income as, they're not worth as much.

380

:

Yeah.

381

:

You are worth Mm-Hmm.

382

:

. Yeah.

383

:

So maybe that's, that's kind of a, that's

one of the reasons why I'm not really

384

:

sure between Instagram and LinkedIn,

like what I should be doing because

385

:

my, the people who need landing pages.

386

:

Well, like, for example, like, small,

I've done landing pages for small

387

:

business owners, but they usually,

they, they need a long time to save up

388

:

for said landing page, or like there's

usually not, like, follow up work to

389

:

do with them, because they don't have a

blog set up, or like, Blah, blah, blah.

390

:

And so it was, it was really a

miracle that one of my clients reached

391

:

out to me on Instagram because she

actually belonged to a bigger company.

392

:

Cool.

393

:

But that's usually not the case.

394

:

So.

395

:

Yeah.

396

:

I don't know.

397

:

I need to figure out like a, an easier

way to do LinkedIn and then quickly get

398

:

it over in Instagram and forget about

it because I just don't have time.

399

:

Well, and like, I guess kind

of two things coming to mind.

400

:

One with that coming back to Twitter

posts, like you can just take one

401

:

blurb from your LinkedIn posts.

402

:

I know.

403

:

Put it in the Twitter post,

take the caption, put it in

404

:

the caption of Instagram.

405

:

You know what I mean?

406

:

Yep.

407

:

Yep.

408

:

Yep.

409

:

Yep.

410

:

That's what I need to do.

411

:

Sometimes repurposing is easier said

than done, but you could try that and

412

:

see if it was pretty quick for you.

413

:

Yeah.

414

:

And I feel like too now,

because I have more experience.

415

:

The, it used to be that like writing on

Instagram was more like, look at how good

416

:

of a, like how artistic of a writer I am.

417

:

Like here's me writing.

418

:

But now it's more like

I have actual advice.

419

:

For how to like get it done or like

how to do a well or how to create

420

:

conversions and stuff And so that is

more like like value heavy and less

421

:

just like artistic I don't know.

422

:

It may be just be easier to

get it done, you know quickly.

423

:

Yeah, so okay I think my

mind, all these ideas.

424

:

I'm sorry, I'm taking yours.

425

:

No, this is exactly the support and like

if I remember talking about something

426

:

and you have something come to your

mind like butt in and talk because Okay.

427

:

This is for you.

428

:

Well, like one kind of narrowing down,

like who your target audience even is.

429

:

And like you said, you can

do a lot of different things.

430

:

I think sometimes we get so particular

about like, this is who I'm talking to.

431

:

But like for the purpose of who you would

love working for and like love creating

432

:

a landing page for, like who is coming

to mind is like who that person is.

433

:

Oh, that's even.

434

:

That's even a bigger question.

435

:

I really have not niched down.

436

:

And you don't have to.

437

:

Just like, who's coming to

mind of like, who would be fun?

438

:

This isn't the only person

you could work for, like.

439

:

Well, I love, I do dream of like,

taking a full time job as like,

440

:

an in house copywriter for like,

a software as a service company.

441

:

Or.

442

:

Okay.

443

:

Even like, a fintech company.

444

:

Yeah.

445

:

Love, love software as a service.

446

:

Or love like, service providers.

447

:

Okay.

448

:

They're fun to write for.

449

:

So that's kind of, yeah.

450

:

So that, that could be

your, your niche, like.

451

:

Yeah, I've never really

said it like that before.

452

:

It's helpful.

453

:

And again, like, you don't have to,

like, that much, but that could be.

454

:

So then, this is also what I'm going

to come back to, as far as, like,

455

:

your Instagram, do you want to,

yeah, like, teach copywriting tips?

456

:

Or do you want to teach, like, I don't

even know if teach is the right word, but

457

:

like, yeah, like, what value Would they be

looking for if they're on Instagram or is

458

:

coming back to like our first question Do

you find your your people on LinkedIn and

459

:

then Instagram is a fun separate thing?

460

:

Where you you just teach people about

copywriting tips that for now you don't

461

:

have the intention of hiring but also we

could go down like that rabbit hole of

462

:

Ways you could scale your business as like

helping people learn to do their own copy.

463

:

I don't know, you know, it's like

there's so much value in your mind,

464

:

like, There's a lot I could do.

465

:

I feel like if I tried to like, I don't

know, make a course or yeah, resource or

466

:

like create downloadable resources for

people to DIY, that would just be I don't

467

:

know if I'm gonna have, like, the time or

the bandwidth to, to tackle that until,

468

:

like, after my kids are out of the house.

469

:

Well, and does that even sound fun to you?

470

:

Like, does that It sounds fun if

I had all the time in the world.

471

:

Okay.

472

:

Because of my nature.

473

:

Because I just, I would need to go

so deep into that to figure that out.

474

:

You would want to make it really good.

475

:

Mm hmm.

476

:

Yeah.

477

:

I'm even thinking like, and again,

this is, we're really just exploring

478

:

here, but like, how much people

value feedback from a copywriter?

479

:

So even if you provided, like, an

audit, I could, I will give you a

480

:

week of Voxer access to me for X

amount of dollars, and I'll give you

481

:

any feedback you want on your copy.

482

:

I've never thought about that.

483

:

Eat that up.

484

:

I would eat that up, you

know, like wow, really?

485

:

I've like never even thought about that.

486

:

Yeah that's very interesting if

it sounds fun to you, but yeah, I

487

:

really explore so many things of like

Yeah, no, that sounds super cool.

488

:

Actually.

489

:

I just have to kind of

wrap my brain around it.

490

:

Like I Yeah, I know what

boxer is Interesting.

491

:

It's almost like yeah,

that would be like editing.

492

:

So that's that's what you You

Would be most attractive to you,

493

:

personally, would be like, just

like an editor on hand for a week.

494

:

Like, can you look at this, or

like, am I saying this the right

495

:

way, or can I say this better?

496

:

I wanna like, promote this thing,

but I don't really know how to say

497

:

it in a good way, and either have

you like, give me questions to like,

498

:

figure out like, what I even wanna

say about things, or tell me like, how

499

:

to research things, just like, yeah.

500

:

Yeah.

501

:

Like, on hand help for a week,

or for a month, or for whatever.

502

:

Yeah.

503

:

Okay.

504

:

That's not a time you want to provide.

505

:

That would be really fun.

506

:

And that would be great

for my Instagram followers.

507

:

Like you were saying.

508

:

Like that's something

that they can handle.

509

:

That's the people who are there.

510

:

They can afford.

511

:

Yeah.

512

:

Right.

513

:

Yeah.

514

:

And also I find too that Oh, this is a

thought I've never expressed, but I feel

515

:

like the Instagram people, sometimes

I find that they're almost harder to

516

:

write for because I personally feel

like they understand their product.

517

:

On such a deep level and they have so

much experience writing about their

518

:

product actually that i'm like, I

think you just need A confidence boost.

519

:

I don't think you need

me to write for you.

520

:

But like corporations are like they

have so many people in them Yes.

521

:

They actually need someone to like

sit down and become an expert.

522

:

It's not a personal brand.

523

:

Yeah.

524

:

Not a personal brand.

525

:

Right.

526

:

Exactly.

527

:

So, wow.

528

:

I didn't realize.

529

:

Alex, this is mind blowing.

530

:

That's great.

531

:

That's what they need.

532

:

They don't need me to come

in and write their copy.

533

:

They don't want to pay for that.

534

:

It's probably not even going to,

like, what I charge wouldn't even

535

:

like pay for itself probably.

536

:

Like, I don't know.

537

:

But like.

538

:

It sounds like when I was hiring

somebody, like I've had, I have

539

:

somebody do my website and like.

540

:

I was interviewing a bunch of different

people, and they were all saying

541

:

like, You can write your Instagram

captions or do this and that.

542

:

And I realized in the

interviewing process, I'm like,

543

:

I actually like doing that.

544

:

Like, this is fun for me.

545

:

But yeah, I just want somebody who's good

at it to support me and help me do this.

546

:

Yeah, because there are some, like,

really useful tips that I could give

547

:

that would just give you direction.

548

:

And then you, and that's like, yeah,

and it's actually kind of exhausting

549

:

for me to be like, I hope I'm writing

this better than they would write it.

550

:

I kind of doubt it.

551

:

You just like try to be their voice.

552

:

Yeah, and I advertise that I'm good

at that, but I mean, yeah, I think

553

:

definitely, small business owners

don't even know their own strength

554

:

when it comes to like, how well

they've, like I, for example, I did

555

:

a landing page for Freckled Hand.

556

:

Oh yeah.

557

:

And the whole time I was just like, I

don't think she really needs me for this.

558

:

She's so good at talking

about what she does.

559

:

I'm like, I can, like, arrange things.

560

:

I should've, I wish I'd known that.

561

:

Because that would've

been great to help her.

562

:

Yeah.

563

:

With that, I think.

564

:

And even, yeah, I'm just thinking,

yeah, landing pages, or website

565

:

copy, or Instagram captions, or

emails, or whatever it is, like.

566

:

Yeah, alright.

567

:

That's fab.

568

:

I get a recording of this, right?

569

:

I don't need to be writing things down.

570

:

Yep.

571

:

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

572

:

Usually I like take notes during things

too, but we've just been chatting so much.

573

:

Yeah, sorry.

574

:

No, this is great.

575

:

Okay, cool.

576

:

So that's great.

577

:

Yeah, I'm gonna gear, Instagram

is geared towards like, I'm

578

:

not selling you anything.

579

:

I'm just giving you, Or, or, I'm either

just giving you free content or you can

580

:

sign up for Voxer Access and we can powwow

together and I'll just be there for you.

581

:

And then I can direct actual,

like, serious marketing to LinkedIn

582

:

and then I can even pull pieces.

583

:

Yeah, and you can pull things you

do from there so you don't feel

584

:

like you're always having to.

585

:

Yeah, sweet.

586

:

Do double duty, have two

just separate businesses.

587

:

Yeah, yeah.

588

:

I actually have a friend who,

she's a more experienced marketer,

589

:

but she, she kind of does that.

590

:

She does a LinkedIn post and then

she actually hires someone to do the

591

:

transfer over to templates, just watch

out for my LinkedIn posts and make

592

:

sure they end up over on my Instagram.

593

:

Oh, that's nice.

594

:

So you don't even have to send them over.

595

:

Right.

596

:

That'd be cool.

597

:

For anyone who's listening to

this, you might listen to this.

598

:

I don't know.

599

:

That's also a good idea if

you want to pay for that.

600

:

Totally, totally.

601

:

Okay, so do you feel like you want to

spend more time as far as like, a system

602

:

for creating content that doesn't feel

so stressful or like strategy so you

603

:

don't get sucked into Instagram again

or something else that might be helpful.

604

:

I like both of those.

605

:

Let's talk about strategy

for batching though.

606

:

But I feel like, yeah, if you

have more, if you have more to

607

:

tell me about that, then yeah.

608

:

So I mean, I just shared what I did,

but I think it'd be helpful to figure

609

:

out what will work for you because it's

going to be different for everyone.

610

:

Yeah.

611

:

So what's your, I know you said you

haven't been posting for a while.

612

:

But like, what's your, if you

were to try something right now,

613

:

if you were to like, create your

system right now, what's coming to

614

:

mind of what you would start with?

615

:

Well, I do like the idea of

being off the computer for it.

616

:

And just like, yeah, sitting

down with a notebook.

617

:

And I like, I feel like

brain dumping content ideas.

618

:

is really great.

619

:

I used to do it on my phone.

620

:

I used to use Google Keep.

621

:

And then I would just, and then I

would drag and drop them because it

622

:

syncs from my phone to my computer.

623

:

And then I drag the job, drag

and drop them into a note.

624

:

Wow.

625

:

That was rough.

626

:

And then in the note, I would

like write the whole thing.

627

:

And then I would go into Canva and

obviously spend an eternity on Canva.

628

:

And then post it and then

spend another eternity.

629

:

Looking at the post.

630

:

So embarrassing.

631

:

Something that my coach does that I steal

from all the time, but like, I don't do it

632

:

in my post, but she does it in her post.

633

:

Her first page of her carousel

will be like a cutesy,

634

:

whatever, like Canva design.

635

:

And then the rest of the pages

in her carousels are just

636

:

screenshots from her notes.

637

:

Oh, yeah, that's great.

638

:

And it's so, it's so, Like simple

and like people easy to read and then

639

:

she doesn't have to spend a million

years creating a whole Candidate

640

:

post it's like yeah one slide.

641

:

Boop.

642

:

Boop.

643

:

That's that's the grown up way

644

:

That's the like, self assured,

high self esteem way to do it.

645

:

And I think I'm ready.

646

:

I think I'm ready to go.

647

:

I was going to say, and grown up

Natalie is coming back to Instagram.

648

:

Yeah, yeah.

649

:

It's going to be different this time.

650

:

I love that.

651

:

I'm probably going to do that.

652

:

That's great.

653

:

Okay.

654

:

So then as far as like, time in

your schedule, do you feel like

655

:

you have like a scheduled time?

656

:

To either plan content or create content.

657

:

Do you want that?

658

:

Do you not want that?

659

:

I might just want to designate a notebook

for it and like maybe have a rule that

660

:

I don't Write it down in my phone just

because That's so distracting like there's

661

:

a higher chance even that while I'm trying

to get my thoughts out on my phone I'll

662

:

start doing something else on my phone

and lose it So like for that reason

663

:

alone, I need to be in my in a notebook.

664

:

So maybe I'll try that And then as far

as oh, yeah, no you go ahead go ahead

665

:

and then as far as time, I don't know

I don't know when I'm probably just

666

:

bedtimes when it would need to happen How

much time do you want to spend on this?

667

:

I don't know.

668

:

Not a lot.

669

:

I don't want to spend a lot of time.

670

:

I'll be honest.

671

:

Yeah, I want to spend the

least amount of time possible.

672

:

Okay, like,

673

:

I don't know, half an hour a week?

674

:

That's like too much or too little.

675

:

If I could, I mean, is that just creating

content or is that crea or writing it

676

:

down and then creating it and posting it?

677

:

Writing it down and then creating it.

678

:

Half an hour a week would be awesome.

679

:

I almost wonder if I could do that.

680

:

It's a challenge.

681

:

Okay.

682

:

And I think that really can help with

perfectionist tendencies, which we

683

:

all have to some more than others,

but that it might feel uncomfortable

684

:

to say, you know, I'm declaring

my efforts as enough and I'm done.

685

:

And this is what I have ready to go.

686

:

It will likely feel uncomfortable.

687

:

Like, Yeah, but I've just gotta.

688

:

Yeah.

689

:

I think the Instagram break was really

important because I was doing work I was

690

:

getting hired and like doing projects

and not doing anything on Instagram So

691

:

it was important to get that solidified

in my brain like You do not need this.

692

:

Yes, I think that is so healthy to learn.

693

:

Like, yeah, not only from a mindset

level, but like you've experienced

694

:

that level of you don't need it.

695

:

It really, if it ever is becoming

not fun or sucking your in, well one,

696

:

message me and I'll jump on a call

with you and we'll talk through it.

697

:

But also like you don't need

it, you don't have to do it.

698

:

Yeah, that's awesome.

699

:

Do you do, do you finish

everything in 30 minutes?

700

:

What's your time?

701

:

This is what I do.

702

:

I do, I spend more than 30 minutes a week.

703

:

I do one to two hours for like planning,

like writing out every piece of content.

704

:

And then each day I spend about 30,

well, minutes total on Instagram.

705

:

But that's like post, like

creating the post, posting,

706

:

scrolling, posting on my stories.

707

:

It's responding to DMs, responding

to comments, that's like everything.

708

:

So as far as like creating the post

and posting it, it's a question of

709

:

like how much that I'm actually doing.

710

:

Probably, I'd say 10 minutes per post.

711

:

That's amazing.

712

:

Yeah, I've got to rewire my brain

around how much time it should take.

713

:

I'll spend like a day on like one post.

714

:

Okay, this is where what

might be helpful is like.

715

:

What are your thoughts that come

up for you when you're posting or

716

:

when, like, after you've posted?

717

:

Like, what, what thoughts

do you have then?

718

:

And it's been a while, so I don't know if

you remember, but just trying to figure

719

:

out like how does this sound like I've

been staring at this for so long, you

720

:

know, like when you're like painter when

they look at the painting for too long and

721

:

starts to look weird, you know, so that's

another vote for getting it done quickly

722

:

and just being done is because I, I start

to not be able to tell if it's any good

723

:

and then start to doubt if it's good and

then I start fixing it in weird ways and

724

:

then it really isn't good and all that.

725

:

And it's always shocking to me.

726

:

Sometimes I post something and I'm

like, people are gonna love this.

727

:

And then it's like, crickets.

728

:

And then sometimes I just like,

throw something up and people are

729

:

like, Oh, I love this, love this.

730

:

And I'm like, wait, what?

731

:

Yes, that is so true.

732

:

You can never tell.

733

:

And so sometimes it's just, yeah,

I was gonna say sometimes it's

734

:

just the, it's the more authentic

thing that speaks to people.

735

:

Yes, totally, totally.

736

:

Something that I have been doing that

has totally changed things for me, even

737

:

when I'm like creating the content.

738

:

I will start to like have thoughts

of like specific people that are like

739

:

judging my content that I'm like, Oh,

like they're going to think this or, Oh,

740

:

they're going to think that like, yeah,

or, or I like think of a specific client.

741

:

I'm like, Oh, I want her to like this.

742

:

And this is also content.

743

:

I'm not like, you know, I don't

realize I'm doing this, but

744

:

since I've started paying, you

know, it's in the, yeah, exactly.

745

:

Every, anytime I like catch myself,

like creating content that way, I, I

746

:

like to picture somebody who is like

ecstatic to see my post, whatever it is.

747

:

She's like, Oh good, like Alex posted

again, like, I'm excited to read this.

748

:

I'm excited to see what it said.

749

:

And that's who I create my post for is

like somebody who loves whatever I post.

750

:

And that's just helped me to like, get

out of my head a little bit of like,

751

:

I don't know, get out of my head.

752

:

That's great.

753

:

I love that because I do that too.

754

:

And it's, it is better to imagine it.

755

:

For someone who is excited and

it just helps you be excited.

756

:

Yeah.

757

:

Or yourself, I guess.

758

:

And, and create the, and

create the content that, like,

759

:

people actually want to see.

760

:

The right people want to see.

761

:

Yeah, a better post.

762

:

Yeah.

763

:

Yeah, exactly.

764

:

Like, self doubt is a writing killer.

765

:

I'll tell, I'll say that.

766

:

Ooh, you, yeah, you probably

know that on a deep level.

767

:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

768

:

If I'm in a, if I'm feeling on top

of the world, I'm feeling good,

769

:

then, like, I can write better.

770

:

I don't know what, I don't know what

flip, what switch it is in your brain.

771

:

Mm hmm.

772

:

I don't know, but that's cool.

773

:

Yeah, doubt is a brain killer.

774

:

Okay.

775

:

So, so what I do, and again, I'm

just showing these as ideas and

776

:

examples, you can do whatever you want.

777

:

I tried for a while, like, Hey, I'm

going to post these days, or I'm going

778

:

to post like this frequency or whatever.

779

:

I never found that.

780

:

Ever, to like, work for me, to have

like a consistent time to put up.

781

:

Yay!

782

:

I'm so glad to hear that!

783

:

Okay.

784

:

Thank you for saying that!

785

:

So for me, instead of deciding how many

posts I'm going to do per week, I decide

786

:

how much time I'm going to spend per week.

787

:

And if I've reached my time limit, then

that's what I got for you this week.

788

:

There'll be more next week.

789

:

That's beautiful.

790

:

And so Yeah, yeah, whatever, like, I think

last week I, I, I'll make four posts.

791

:

So I've done like four posts

this week and then it's like,

792

:

sometimes I'll do six posts.

793

:

Sometimes I'll do one post.

794

:

Like it just depends on what I come

up with in that amount of time.

795

:

And do you find, cause I know your

business is probably, your Instagram.

796

:

Right?

797

:

Yes.

798

:

So, how do you deal with, like, feeling

opportunity costs or, like, feeling,

799

:

like, guilt that you didn't get your

marketing out that week or, or whatever?

800

:

I mean, maybe you're at a point now where

it's just consistent enough, but No,

801

:

I think a lot of it is, like, mindset.

802

:

Of like, sometimes, when I have hardly

posted, yeah, or like, I had a post ready

803

:

but I never posted that day, yeah, my

mind starts to go like, oh, like, I didn't

804

:

get that out, and then I'll just like,

this is kind of woo woo, I'm getting into

805

:

the woo woo, but like, mindset work of

like, I am going to choose to believe

806

:

that I have a lot of content out there

that people can go binge right now.

807

:

They can go look through all

my old social media posts.

808

:

They can look, go look

through my highlights.

809

:

They can go listen to my podcast.

810

:

Like there is content.

811

:

I have content out there that is serving

people just because I didn't post

812

:

today or this week doesn't mean that

people can't be served by me right now.

813

:

Yeah.

814

:

Love that.

815

:

That's good.

816

:

So that's something that's helped me as

far as like, yeah, be okay with that.

817

:

That's also another, it's a

vote for just getting things

818

:

out, small things out quickly.

819

:

Because then you have a large library

of content to fall back on mentally.

820

:

Yes, yeah, totally.

821

:

Even if they're small, but it's

like, at least, that's what, because

822

:

that's what people want to do, right?

823

:

They want to do this.

824

:

They don't want to read your whole big

long thing of, yeah, they really don't.

825

:

And so small, small, authentic

and not too much work.

826

:

That's what I'm taking from this.

827

:

Yeah.

828

:

Yeah.

829

:

That's what they want.

830

:

And that's what I want.

831

:

Yeah, exactly.

832

:

The why don't I do it?

833

:

It's what they want and what I want.

834

:

Okay, yeah, that's a good question.

835

:

Like, is anything coming up for like, why?

836

:

I don't know.

837

:

I just wondered.

838

:

It just, that seems so beautifully obvious

just then when I said it, like, it's

839

:

what they want and it's what I want.

840

:

So at what point did I,

was I confused about that?

841

:

And I guess it's my own brain thinking,

oh, it's not, it's not good enough.

842

:

It's not like robust enough.

843

:

Yeah.

844

:

It's just, I was just mis, misconstruing

what people actually want to read.

845

:

And I think it's really easy in.

846

:

Instagram and any social media platform,

Instagram is just where you focus,

847

:

but it's the same on any social media

platform where it's like, you are

848

:

seeing results immediately that fast,

how many likes you're getting, how

849

:

many views your reel is getting, how

many comments it's getting, how many

850

:

saves, how many shares, you know,

it's like the dopamine hits, right?

851

:

And so it's really easy to get sucked

into like, Oh, well, this didn't do

852

:

as well as this one, so it must mean

I didn't, yeah, it's not as good.

853

:

It reminds me of my, of a three year

old son and whenever I give him like

854

:

anything, he's like, I want a lot.

855

:

I want a lot.

856

:

So I like do one spoonful.

857

:

Is that a lot?

858

:

Yes, it's a lot.

859

:

And I think we do the same thing as

like social media, you know, where

860

:

it's like, I want people to like this.

861

:

Like, is this a lot?

862

:

Like, is this good?

863

:

Is this?

864

:

Yeah.

865

:

Okay.

866

:

Yeah.

867

:

You know, we need to be, we need

someone to tell us that it's good.

868

:

Yeah.

869

:

Yeah.

870

:

Yeah.

871

:

Just deciding for yourself.

872

:

Like, yeah, this is good.

873

:

This is good stuff.

874

:

I don't know.

875

:

Yeah.

876

:

Totally.

877

:

Asking your mom.

878

:

Is this a lot?

879

:

It's almost like, I feel like what you're

doing, like what social media coaching

880

:

is at its core is really just like self

esteem building or confidence building.

881

:

Like at its, at its deepest level, you

know, because like, seriously, I'm,

882

:

I'm picking up on all these things and

like, this is such wonderful advice,

883

:

but it's hitting me so differently now

that I, one, took a break and two, been.

884

:

like honing my craft for a

little while and like growing

885

:

in confidence in that area.

886

:

It's just so, like if you had spoken

to me a year ago, this would be a

887

:

different conversation, you know?

888

:

Yeah, yeah.

889

:

It's just interesting you say that because

a lot of the work that I ended up doing

890

:

with people is about like, Things that

their parents told them when they were

891

:

little that's like impacting them in their

belief and how they show up on social

892

:

media Like well, you say that you say

that and the last couple months have been

893

:

some Some big healing and some big moving

on from things around that too for me.

894

:

So it's funny.

895

:

Yeah.

896

:

Yes It's just so funny how

it impacts everything we do.

897

:

Yeah, even something as trivial

as Posting on social media.

898

:

Yes.

899

:

Gotta work that stuff out.

900

:

Yes, it will show up everywhere.

901

:

It shows up, yeah.

902

:

I don't know, in my parenting, in social

media, and growth of your business, right?

903

:

It's like, yeah.

904

:

It's fun though.

905

:

We grow.

906

:

It's fun to grow.

907

:

It is.

908

:

And that's what it's all about, right?

909

:

It's like, that's what it's all about.

910

:

Okay, so I feel like kind of like

things we've talked about, but I want

911

:

to make sure you feel like you have

like a support and the plan is half an

912

:

hour a week to plan and create content.

913

:

I'm just going to jot down.

914

:

I'm just going to go ahead.

915

:

Okay.

916

:

Because I love this plan.

917

:

Okay.

918

:

Okay.

919

:

Half an hour a week.

920

:

We'll see.

921

:

And then just whatever you

happen to create in that time.

922

:

And as you're working through things,

you know, like maybe initially you get

923

:

caught up in perfectionist tendencies or

some weeks more than others, whatever.

924

:

Sometimes that might be one post.

925

:

Sometimes that might be

more like whatever it is.

926

:

And you'll get faster.

927

:

And then as far as like

scaling your business.

928

:

that like idea for support, for

people writing their copy for their

929

:

own business, like boxer support.

930

:

Yeah.

931

:

Do you wanna, do you feel like

you have a plan enough for that?

932

:

Do you want to talk more about like

specifically, I think that just, that

933

:

plan just made itself, I think it's, it's.

934

:

Okay.

935

:

It's happening.

936

:

Amazing.

937

:

That's great.

938

:

Yeah.

939

:

I can't believe I never

thought about that.

940

:

Oh, I'm so glad.

941

:

So cool.

942

:

Thank you.

943

:

Yeah.

944

:

I'll send you a percentage of that.

945

:

What's really fun about like that is

then that will give you more ideas of

946

:

what type of content create to create

because you'll see what people are.

947

:

Asking and need help with

and that will just create its

948

:

own content, you know, yes.

949

:

Oh my goodness Fabulous, and that just

seems so easy and fun to me like I can

950

:

I can basically almost give that away

too Like I would be so comfortable

951

:

just offering that for so cheap.

952

:

That's awesome.

953

:

And then Yeah, and then I'm

going to try and do some more

954

:

robust stuff on what's it called?

955

:

LinkedIn.

956

:

LinkedIn.

957

:

Yeah, that thing.

958

:

Do you, how much time do you

want to spend on LinkedIn?

959

:

Do you feel like that's part

of your half an hour a week?

960

:

Well, I, maybe I should do 30 for

Instagram and 30 for LinkedIn.

961

:

Okay.

962

:

Because Instagram actually requires,

like, some, some Canva work.

963

:

Yeah.

964

:

So maybe it just looks like

yeah, cause there's some stuff

965

:

I wouldn't post on LinkedIn.

966

:

I can't necessarily use them

interchangeably every time.

967

:

So there will have needed

to be some separate work for

968

:

LinkedIn and some for Instagram.

969

:

So yeah, maybe an hour a week,

like on a Saturday when Brett's

970

:

got Simon and that will work.

971

:

That'll be good.

972

:

It's a nice round number too.

973

:

And one hour.

974

:

Yeah, love those round numbers.

975

:

Yeah, okay, cool.

976

:

That's great.

977

:

Was that it?

978

:

I think that was it.

979

:

Do you have anything else

you want support with?

980

:

That's great.

981

:

Okay, perfect.

982

:

All right, well, thanks, Alex.

983

:

See you, Natalie.

984

:

Yeah.
